I did not design mine at home. I picked out a resonator that I liked and a muffler that I liked and paid a muffler shop to bend all the accompanying pipes to connect them. I am quite pleased with the results.
  2. UPDATE: Better late than never, but I got the pictures of my new to me used tranny. Was sidetracked as I spent a few days redo-ing my garage. Added some art, paint, and shelving stuff. Anyway, here are the tranny More pics of the garage when I am done. Still some work to do. One thing I did not realize is that there are shims on the bearings that help it mate to the bellhousing. Roger and I decided it would be best to ship the tranny without the bellhousing to save weight. But now I have to find two things: A) the shims that go on the main shaft and the countershaft bearings that fit in between the tranny housing and the bell housing The gasket that goes in between the bellhousing and the transmission housing. I am going to call Courtesy to see if they carry them.
  3. Curse your CSI miami detection skills!
  4. hagerty, 20000 dollar agreed to policy 215 dollars/year.
  5. I received my transmission from roger yesterday. The box was badly beat up, (thanks UPS), but it sitting happily in my garage now. The input shaft rotates very freely and smoothly. I cam imagine it would feel better once I get some royal purple in it. The bearings that are visible input shaft appear pretty dry, but seem to roll smoothly. The ball bearings have no visible wear on them. One thing I noticed and already bugged Arne about is that the input shaft has some play in it. Meaning if I grab the cantilevered end I can move it up and down a tiny bit. I have to assume that this is to account for the tolerance stack up and that when it is installed the pilot bushing supports that end. Pics to be posted later today. I plan to replace the rear seal, clean up the housing to get it as clean as the rest of the underbody and then install it with a new OEM clutch.

Call me jealous.. that is awesome! Man, I certainly hope you let me see that beauty in person, so I can see how much work my paint needs! Perhaps you can recommend a paint shop to me!
  9. They both receive independent gas, but even if one is not working at all, the balance tube may be able to support the entire engine under certain circumstances. You can see how the balance tube receives metered air/fuel. Granted you its a fairly torturous path, but it is very possible.
  10. I do like the BRE replica wing I have on my Z. Really fits the car. It was installed by the dealer according to my paperwork. One question though. I miss not having the 240Z/Datsun emblems on back of the trunk lid. When the factory added the deck lid spoiler, did they remove the emblems? Is there a correct way this config should be? With / Without emblems?
  11. UPDATE: Roger sent me a tracking number on my Type A transmission, it is on the way. I have my shiny new tranny jack waiting to get to work. Only thing left to do is order an OEM clutch kit form courtesy (as recommended by roger) and get to work. I will keep this thread alive to post the process of dropping a datsun tranny. To most of you this is old news, but some may find it valuable.

I just bought one! Hope shipping is not too bad. Thanks so much! I cannot wait to go through it, polish it up and get her installed. 17 degrees of initial advance sure beats 5 degrees. Curse our emissions dizzies.

I most certainly was! Do you have a bead on one?
  14. we may have to do that! That could be fun!
  15. wow, Steve, you have a great eye! And your subject matter looks fresh even though I have been to a million weddings. You capture things in a very unique way
  16. That is an option I have considered. I know a few places around me that are sort of secret that I use to shoot my other cars at. I have an 8MB Digital SLR, so I could set something up... What I am finding is I am liking the vintage racing photos more and more. I can take some of the contributions I have received and do some editing (change to black and white and making them look vintage, and presto). I will take some pics of my car though, but it feels like blowing up a pic of my car to hang in front of my car is akin to walking into some-bodies house and seeing a 6 foot painting of the owner. Sort of narcissistic. I cannot believe how great the response has been. I look forward to seeing more pics! Thanks again so much.
  17. I want to thank everyone so much for the help, I have a few emails that I am going to use to get blown up. right now I am thinking of getting this one in a 12' by 8' to cover an entire wall.. its awesome, even though it is not really datsun related...its just amazing
  18. much appreciated buddy!
  19. I am doing some major garage overhaul, and I thought I would make a mural or a fathead from a photo and put it in my garage. I was wondering if people could send me any super hi res photos 6 MB minimum of any Z pics they have so I can blow them up to at least a 4' x 6' image. My email is sdamico555@gmail.com I got in the mood to paint the entire garage yesterday, then I figured I may as well put of a shelving system, then I may as well hang the bikes, and the list goes on and on. While I am waiting for my transmission and parts to come in so I can do a swap out, I may as well be productive! I must be crazyROFL
  20. Been trying to get Roger to give me a call back. I am itching to get him some money. Great guy to talk to and do business with. I can respect that he puts life before Datsuns. And here I thought they were the same thing.

1971 240Z totally can confirm what Arne says. At night I am a good 1/8" into the + side, thought maybe I had a regulator issue. When I looked at the diagram again, and realized what was really happening I understood. I may one day upgrade to a 60amp internal regulated alternator, but not until my stock system dies.
  22. When I had put my Ztherapy carbs on I had them removed as well. You can use the stock fitting on the oil filter side of the engine, but just block off the port that connected to the intake heater line.
  23. This is a wonderful idea... thanks for bringing this up. I am still looking for a good way to hold my optima down...it sits in a plastic box that is held down by a stupid nylon strap. PO was not too big on fixing this.. It is time to make it right.
  24. I took of my overrider bar, do you need any dimensions off it.. I would be happy to help.
