Do people notice you in your classic Z on the road?
I get the usual "what year is that?" from guys in big trucks, and occasionally a 'nice car' while getting gas. A couple weeks ago, a guy with a bike doing the crosswalk gave me a thumbs up. Sometimes, while at a cruise-in, a guy with his little kid will start telling him "It's a Z car" and stuff like that. One guy mistakenly told his kid "It's a 240ZX." thxZ

People who try to make profit
"Word" seems to have different meanings depending on the context. People will say "Word" when appraching some friends, or when leaving, as a kind of greeting or adieu, and at other timesinbetween. It probably depends on the lacaility too.

Did you watch the Superbikes show that was right after? They were saying on that show that there's a BIG group of sport bikes that regularly run the Dragon, when the THP are doin their best to kick the bikes off the road there! thxZ

Braking Problem?
Do you feel a vibration when you brake, like if the rotor was "warped?" That is a sign that you have a spot where the brake pad material is more or less heavily deposited and it grabs a little more or less. About the only solution for that is to turn or sand the rotor face.

Dome light fix!
Did you make strings of lights and glue them around the ouside of the gauge faces? What did you do with the turn signal indicators, and the brake warning, high beam light, etc? Looks great! thxZ

Dome light fix!
How do you think it would look to have a completely clear cover on the dome light, instead of the stock translucent white one. You'd definitely let more ofthe light from a stock bulb through that way. Even an LED lamp would be that much brighter. The only drawback I can think of is that you'd be able to see the guts of the dome light that way. thxZ

Dome light fix!
I took out the green domes from my gauges about a year ago, and put in 7 volt bulbs (GE #55). I turned the dimmer know down a little, but the gauges are easily seen at night.

What finishes should be under the hood?
Thanks, Stephen, Actually, I used the sandpaper(s) to get out a few dings, so it ended up being in my favour. Still, for some reason, people will comment about how the valvecover is 'not polished?' :devious:
-
What finishes should be under the hood?
What do you consider "polished" for steel & aluminum parts? Currently, my valve cover was cleaned, sanded to 800 grit, some steel wool, and then paste polish. You can't see yourself, but it's a very clean finish. That way you can have your parts shine and drive the car too. The old taping on the wires gets to looking frayed and unsightly, and there are just so many wires going to the intake on a 280Z with EFI, so if you could somehow encase them in something like shrink-tubing, then it would look great without being too rice. Of course, some wires need to be exposed, but those are short ones. As for painted surfaces like the block & sheetmetal, I like to see those with a slick-looking paint or clear finish, so water will drain off, or you could easily clean off any oil spots or dirt. In general, the finish should help make cleaning & maintenence easy. How come nobody has mentionedthe finish of the underside of the hood yet? The PO of my car used a rubberized undercoating (ugh!) thxZ

Dome light fix!
Could you please give the part #? You wouldn't have a picture of the insides? thxZ

Fuel injection Port BLOCKED SOLID ! ! !
It looks like the intake gasket is in the way. I could see all the way into the head when I had my injectors out. Would you mind getting a photo of what you can see inside the port withthe intake manifold off? thxZ

Hurry up and bid on this Ebay Gem!
It makes you wonder about things, because the seller only tells you about how unique it is, and that you wantto buy it. The only thing he mentions is the spark plug wires, but what about the rest of the car? What is so good about the car? Anything special what's its history? How many owners? Where was it originally sold, etc.? I thunk what Carl said in #7 is very relevant for this car.

Hurry up and bid on this Ebay Gem!
Isn't there a section for the eBay car auctions? If it really is all "original" then that means 30 year-old spark plug wires, fuel hoses, tyres, wiper blades, etc., and unless it's been in a giant envirnmentally-controlled bubble, then the rubber things should be dried up and the tyres flat-spotted. OK, you can drive it for a hundred miles to re-round the tyres, but the car is still not all that new. I wonder just how good it really is, unless it's been driven periodically. thxZ

Current Options for Rear Window Demisting?
I was thinking about attaching a heated fan like that to the end of a tube, then putting slots down the tube, so the air would blow on the window. It would need a couple of brackets on the ends. The problem is that I don't know how well the air would blow on the glass like that. thxZ

Current Options for Rear Window Demisting?
There was a topic like this abut a year or so ago. Somebody actually found a replacement defroster grid kit, but you couldn't trim the strips to fit your window- they were made to fit specific cars, and the one that would fit a Z window was an inch too wide. I was hoping someone might know of a more reasonable solution than what I just said, but it looks like I'll (or we'll) need to comb the Internet for a more suitable replacement. It's too bad all the aftermarket stuff is geared for tuners, expensive customs or new cars... thxZ
-
Current Options for Rear Window Demisting?
I don't think that I will be able to save or repair the rear window defroster grid on my 280Z, so I think I will need to either replace the entire grid or put in a fan of some kind to demist the rear window. What options are out there? thxZ

Ever swap in your Z car?
I thought red_dog was talking about swapping "something" with a girl or spouse! Personally, I don't think there would be room in a Z for anything more physical than holding hands maybe, unless you folded the seats forward and opened the hatch... thxZ

Painting a spook?
At 601 MPH your spook falls off? I was waiting for some body to say that, Bryan... Will that paint deflect rocks going up to 600 MPH too? (j/k) What you could really use on the body is that paint used on KITT on the Knight Rider TV show.

Painting a spook?
In that case, most of the comments here on this website and most all other "open disccusion forums" would meet your suggestion.
