What makes a Z a Z? What modifacations go too far to be called a Z?
This is not so. I've watched these auctions, and the final bids are always very disappointing. The exceptionally restored ORIGINAL vehicles always get the highest bids, excepting the ones with a notable history. You must be referring to some of the custom cars from the more famous builders.

Weird Myths or Facts about your Z car
The way I heard it.... Nissan was building engines under a license for Mercedes, and used that as an example to designing their own engine.

I agree too. If I go to a car show or cruise-in, I walk right past the Corvettes or other new cars until I find something with real character. It might be a rat rod, an early corvette, a nicely kept model T or model A, or something completely different. Sometimes you see the owner sitting by his shiny new car, and when you walk by without even looking (and they watch you!) you can tell they seem a little (offended.) You can tell which cars have had a lot of TLC or midnite wrenching by the cleanliness or detail that is there- be it engine or interior- and after working on or maintaining an S30 for so many years, instead of just swapping engines straight-away, you can really appreciate it.

Documenting an Engine Rebuild
There's no problem with emissions around here, unless you're belching black smoke like a tire fire, but safety and reliability is always a high priority.

Documenting an Engine Rebuild
If you were to rebuild the engine, would you need to keep records of all the specific things done or parts that were replaced? I m considering what effect a rebuild might have on your Title, or how you would describe the vehicle. What are the important things or new parts you would want to document, if any? Would you begin keeping a new maintenance log from the time it was rebuilt, or just continue with the maintenance schedule from before? Should you say it has "1000 miles" on the engine, or just 1000 miles since the rebuild? Would you consider the vehicle more new, or still consider it an antique? Did I miss anything? thxZ

Weird Myths or Facts about your Z car
I'll have to remember to ask for proof. But so far, I just roll my eyes every time he tells this 'fact' to a spectator.

I know a guy with a 260Z that has an authentic factory electric sunroof.

Weird Myths or Facts about your Z car
You can't actually use anything from the Urban Dictionary website. It's run by illiterate urban teenagers, and they use urban slang as the definitions of urban slang?

Weird Myths or Facts about your Z car
I've read some of the stuff on the Urban dictionary website. the people that contribute there are worse than over at zcar.com... The same people are probably the authors of the "SMS dictionary for the illiterate." I'd rather use Wikipedia for a definition of this, or just wait until some TV show on the Discovery Network provides a definition of "Bad arse car"

What makes a Z a Z? What modifacations go too far to be called a Z?
I was at MidOhio all last weekend, and I can tell you, the manufacturers must've had every 22 year old girl with nice looks from a 10 mile radius of the place! Every 15 minutes I was walking around the infield, a couple girls would run up to me and ask, " Can we get a picture with you?" That kind of reaction hasn't happened since college.

Of course you'd know that if you've watched ay of the historical TV pset, you shows or video series about the Z car. I got his book at the 2008 convention and I read it, and there's a LOT more to it than you see on some TV show. Bt I would just like to say this to all those who are quick to pull out the nukes when someone makes a candid reference to Mr K. and "designing the Z car:" ASK first if the person is serious or joking. If you get upset you only make yourself look bad. Another thing a lot of people get mixed up was at the 2010 convention, when it was the "40th anniversary" but if I'd mention that the Z car had 50 years of history behind it, people would get upset and try to offer correction where it wasn't needed.

280Z Tyre size decal
I think another important thing about this; is there supposed to be a tire size/pressure decal, like newer cars have? I know the information is in the owner's manual, and you could probably make up something to stick on the door jamb.

280Z Tyre size decal
Is there supposed to be a tire size decal for a 280Z? Does anyone have a photo, or know of a place to get one? thxZ

My car is a '78 John, and I'm in class E (E stock.) But I would say all the parts are stock equivalent. It's just the little nitpicky things that tech people are concerned about, like the missing emblem that was never on the hood, since I bought the car. It makes you feel as if they don't want you there,. The rules make some allowances, mentioning "provided that the weight of the car doesn't change significantly," IIRC, but from what I've been told, the weight of a hood emblem is significant on a 2600 LB car? The rims are from a ZX, and are the same width as the steel ones. I considered STR or STX, but the cost of the new tires required is outrageous. This autocross stuff should be in another topic, probably.
