240-Lower or not Lower?
Eibachs are only going to lower you 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch......no problem.....do it!

Noisy Tappets?
zXatlast.......The special tool is a simple feeler gauge. If the bloke that had the head built had the work done at a reputable rebuilder, the rocker geometry (centering the wipe pattern) will have already been done. If not, you'll need to make sure that it is set up properly or you'll experience the same problem as above. Find out who did the work and if rocker geometry was set up. if it wasn't, you're in for a learning experience. Welcome to our fraternity! Guy

Toasted Clutch?
Super.....You"ve got a 240z collar (18 mm).........now when you get the 240Z pressure plate and disc (2 inch fingers), you should be able to bolt her up!
-
Toasted Clutch?
Hogie....Install the throw-out bearing and measure the distance from the top of the throw-out bearing to the top of the fingers. If you get 16-18mm, you've got a 240Z collar. Now if you've got a 240Z clutch, you should be good to go. I can't imagine MSA sending you the wrong collar if you told them 240Z. Those guys all know Z's inside and out. Guy

Oil pump bolt...oops
MSA has them......3 will probably be OK for the 3 or 4 days it takes to arrive.

Darrell.......Are you sure about that.......I think they're both the same. Guy

Plug Reads?
Is it me or is the center plug in the first picture missing an electrode? I always replace all basic ignition parts when you get a new Z........points,plugs,condensor,rotor and cap if the engine doesn't run perfect from day 1.

240Z Collector Value
The collector car market is still booming. There is room for more cars to be welcomed in and the 70 to 73 Z will make in. We need to continue to promote the car and set the prices, most of all we must push the cheapscapes out. The thing I hear all the time about Z guys is that they don t want to spend any money on their cars...they don t want to pay for quality parts. Some do ........some don't. No one is going to spend $30,000.00 on a Z that needs $30,000.00 to bring it up to snuff! The cars at Barrett Jackson are impeccable. Put your car up on a lift and look at all the discolored nuts and bolts, faded paint and under-coating, grease etc. and etc. and imagine it going over the under-carrage mirrors at B-J. If you want to get $30,000.00 for your Z, you probably need to put $30,000.00 into it! For a tinker toy, fun to drive...fun to work on car, you just can't beat 'em. If you want to make a ton of money on 'em.....forget it. And I'll bet that 90% of the cars that sell for big bucks at B-J are big money losers to their owners......but they had a friggin ball during the restoration process! All IMO Guy

Toasted Clutch?
It looks like you have a 240Z clutch with a 2+2 collar. You're right you don't need a new slave cylinder.....you need a 240Z collar and a new 240Z throw-out bearing. Good Luck Hogie.....I think you've found the problem. Never know with previous owners! Guy

Toasted Clutch?
Hogie.......You want to make sure that what you put back is correct. In your pictures at your first post, look at the next to last pic of the pressure plate.A 240Z clutch when sitting like that pic is 2 inches from the floor to the tip of the clutch fingers. If you measure your clutch and that measurement is 2 inches, you have a 240Z clutch. Now you need to make sure you have a 240Z collar........$18.00 from MSA. I believe all TO bearings will work, but check. From your pics, I'd say you need one. Next, buy yourself a new slave cylinder.......Now you know you're good to go! If the measurement is not 2 inches, you need to figure out what clutch you've got and match the collar to it. Good luck.......Guy

Toasted Clutch?
If it's a 240z clutch, it needs a 240z collar. The tranny is the same dimension whether 5 speed or 4 speed. It looks like a 240 z clutch.....if it is, use a MSA 21-2121 70-74 collar. Carl posted some measurements for all of the clutch collars on one of my threads about the 240mm clutch. To my knowledge there is no such thing as a type B 5 speed collar. If the collar is correct I agree with Marty as above.

rattling and hissing when engine turned off
Loosen 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn.......you"ll figure it out......go ahead....get your hands dirty. That"s how you learn. You" ll be able to hear the engine smooth out as you twist the distributor. That would be the easiest thing to check first.

Why do 240Z Owners So Often Put L28s in their cars?
Pin height is the same on L24 and L28 pistons.....so you should be able to run the L24 crank and rods with new .040 over L28 flat-tops to give what equates to a big displacement L24......anyone ever built this motor?
-
Why do 240Z Owners So Often Put L28s in their cars?
It would be an overbored L24......you're right about giving up cubes with the L24 crank, but you would pick up displacement over the 24 block........ but seat of the pants, the L24 just feels like more fun to drive to me. Also, the E31 on the big bore block should give you much better compression .....right Jon?

Why do 240Z Owners So Often Put L28s in their cars?
You're absolutely right........no I don't plan to do that, but you always need a couple of spare engines to futz with! I love both the L24 and the L28's for different reasons.....that's why I have 2 of each. I really want to build a motor using the L28 block, L24 crank and rods and the L28 pistons and E31 head.....big displacement with high revs.....I've always been biased toward the L24's.......maybe it's just me, but I think they're more fun to drive!

Why do 240Z Owners So Often Put L28s in their cars?
Also, when you pull your original L24, it should be kept on an engine stand ready to be returned to it's proper place. Both of my L28's have the original motors ready to go back in.

rattling and hissing when engine turned off
Yoshi......Just loosen the 10 mm nut on the base of the distributor.....start the car then twist the distributor counter clockwise a small amount.....see if that helps.Timing can be set by listening to the engine to find it" s smoothest idle.Make sure the engine is fully warmed up when doing this.Good Luck.
