Flat side back towards the flywheel.

    More gold.

Another car in gold.....this one is a VZ from Carl's files.
  5. One spring ends in "1" the other ends in "2". The letters are such that when the springs are installed you can read the letters and numbers right side up. I believe the "1" is front and the "2" is rear. Call MSA and they can tell you.

J.0. ........That car is out of Woodlands Texas....the owner is named Frank....Zedyone originally posted the picture and I liked it so much I saved it. When I asked him what he used he said 920 gold with 3 coats of clear...I just P.M.'d him and asked if he would respond on this forum. Hope he responds so we can get details...his car is certainly close to a perfect match of 920 gold (IMO).

Slighly twist the seal as you install it........don't seat it quite flush as many cranks with a lot of miles may actually have a groove worn in it from the previous seal. You want it to seat on a different spot than the old seal. Heavy oil or grease will work.

It's probably your rear main seal. You can pull the transmission (easier than pulling the engine) IMO......pull the clutch housing, then the flywheel. Pull the seal out with a seal remover or long screwdriver. When installing the seal, grease the lips well before installing.

The color is beautiful, but seems lighter and less brown than the original Safari Gold. It could be the light but the attached seems to be closer (IMO).

Brian.....I have a PPG chip(Safari Gold) for my 71........looks pretty close to the original to me and my painter......you can buy a pint and shoot a chip......remember 35 years of fading makes comparison difficult. Also, Chuck hasn't jammed anything yet.....will pass it on when he starts shooting. Guy
  11. Thanks Geez.....I really had to have a 73.......and silver is my favorite color....I'm pretty damned sure this is it! Guy
  12. Zedy....Do you use Hagerty?....if so how much do you pay?......how do you like 'em? Guy
  13. Grant....Where did you buy your brass metric drain plugs? NAPA doesn't carry them any more.Looking good! Guy
  14. Andy....That's Eiji's car at Datsun Spirit Inc......Beautiful aren't they?
  15. Thanks Brandon for posting the pics.......I don't even try. Remember I still set points (that tells you how much I know about electronics). But most of all thanks to Jeff Mader a super person and an outstanding member who made my silver 73 a reality. As soon as the Safari Gold 71 gets out of restoration, I'll do a "Final Four" with a thrown in 510 and a 300zx.I love the car Jeff!

Eiji has the best engine bolts kits you can buy.....He also packages and labels all the bolts. I just saw him Sunday and ordered another set for my "in transit" 73. My fourth set from Datsun Spirit. Guy
  18. AMEN Jeff.....God created the Z to drive.....If you want a good investment buy "Forever Stamps"!
  19. Steve....Great color...and with wet sanding and buffing, it'll only get better!! Are those Willwoods hiding under that masking paper? Great..aren't they? Looking good. Guy

At TDC the rotor should point somewhere in the range of the left hand snap tab on the top of distributor cap (facing it from the driver side). There is a line on the distributor cap that marks the #1 wire. Remember, the distributor turns counter clockwise when you plug in the firing order. Check the #1 wire for spark.....If you've got gas and fire you should be running. You're timing chain is correct if you lined up the bright links to crank and cam pulley at TDC.
  21. Carl.......You're beginning to sound like Brandon.......Every time I turn around, he finds a "must buy" Z. Believe me Bob.....none of my babies are for sale! How about a good bird dog?
  22. Todd's the man in the Tidewater area......get a good used diff and he'll drop it in for you. Did you have a car at this years Hampton show? I thought you had a white Z.
  23. It's a tough market right now. I just bought a 73 for $13,500.00 with 42,000 original miles. It was automatic also (at least until it arrives). I really liked Randy's car, but at 4200 miles it wouldn't make sense if you wanted a car you could drive. I was looking for silver and found it. Now I've filled the dance card (70,71,72 and 73).

Hi Rich......Take plenty of pics during the process....you'll only get the chance once. My son Brandon does a great job for me. We're pulling for this to be another great Z!!!! Guy
  25. It's irritating to go to ebay (DATSUN 240Z PARTS) ..........25% of items listed are REDDAT parts. Why doesn't he just mail out a catalog? If MSA did that it would take forever to go through the drill!! (IMO) Les and Charlie could really futz things up.
