This might help, I started an Original Owner 280Z site and there are two 1978 Black Pearl cars on the site listed. One is with the Black Pearl stripes and one is without and they both have different wheels. Here is the link -http://michaelgoodweddings.com/datsun/index.html Both were at the convention is Cleveland last year. Hope this is some help.

Just wanted to show off my new head light covers. I have been working (cleaning up inside and out) on my Z over the last couple of weekends and this weekend I put on me new head light covers. I used the tape and did not drill them. I hope they stick and stay in place.

[quote=Mike B;289631The Zspecialties ad also notes that the 74-78 Z's use the regular sized black interior rivets to fasten the tops of the tail light panels to the body. Not sure if that is correct or not. -Mike Mike B, my 76 uses the black rivets to hold the tail light panels to the body. They are original.

Ken, I have the one you are asking about on my car. I have have them on for over 25 years. The only way to attach them is to drill the holes.

I have had this front aid dam for about 28 years, I don't know where I got it or who made it. I like it because I have not seen any other car with one.

Mine don't rattle and it came with a rubber u shaped channel strip for the center piece.
  17. I did not post my results to create a controversy. On the contrary I was happy how my car was judged. I had never had my car in a judged show and was glad to get the score I did. I now know more and should score better next time. I debated on going to the car show because it was raining that morning here in Pittsburgh, my car had not been driven in the rain for over 15 years. But I decided to go because I wanted to meet some of you and I wanted to see how my car looked compared to the others. I see now that the judges are concerned with how the car is prepped, I thought they would judge the paint on the car more aggressively. I didn't expect them to look in the air vents for dust or look for lent on the carpet. I lost the most points in the engine bay and I kind of knew that would happen. I will be doing some engine bay clean up work this summer.
  18. I just received my score sheets, I am very pleased with my scores I think. A total of 267. Also is 3rd place in Street Mod. first generation. Interior - 89, I had some interesting comments like dirt inside chrome vents. Lint on carpet of speaker box. mismatched fasteners hatch trim panel, I have never removed this panel! Dirty window cranks. Worn glove box lock, the glove box has never been locked. All good to know. Underhood - 86 Most of the comments were for dirt, corrosion and worn labels. I do need to work on this area. External Area - 92 most of the comments are about scratches and chips on finders and bumpers. I love this one, dirt on the exhaust and suspension. I did drive in the rain to get there that morning. I think I can add 13 to 14 points by better cleaning of different areas in and out on the car. All in all it was a great time and I learned a lot with the score sheets.

I have had louvers on my car for about 32 years, back in 1977 the only ones I could get were the ones that bolted to the car. They are make of aluminum and were flat black. I painted them about 25 years ago to match the color of the car. If you want to see pictures look at me web site listed below. Look in Outside View and Closeup Details to see a lot of different images. If you plan on leaving them on for ever like I did then the bolt on will work.
  20. Steve I had the same problem with the Appliance centers, I purchased mine form Masseys phone number is 405-239-2010. They are not Appliance centers but ones for Eagle wheels. The problem is that they are 3 1/8 diameter. I think the ones Motor Sport are 3 3/16 diameter and too big. You can see them on my car if you go to my web site (see signature below)and click on Closeup Details and look at the 3rd and 4th image.
  21. I turned 56 in January. I purchased my 1976 280 new in February of that year after looking at a couple of vets. I didn't like the vet because of the way I had to look over the hood bump and the high fenders, so I went with the Z. I traded in my 1972 VW beetle that I purchased new for $1995.00 and sold it for $1550.00 to buy the Z. I drove the car for 4 years as a daily driver until I got a company car. I would drive the car on the weekends and every now and then during the week in the summer months. Around 1986 I had moved and had no room for the car and put it in storage in 1990. At that time I was working for my self as a professional photographer and did not have time for the car, so it sat until spring of 1999. At that time I had to revive the car from the long storage. To get the car back to the way I wanted it I had to do some minor engine work on the injectors, clutch and exhaust system. I also wanted the same dealer installed duel mirrors that I removed in 1986, I found them in Nevada and had them painted the same color as the car in the summer of 1999. I found this site around 2 years ago and now look here every day to learn more about the car. I was able to drive to the ZCCA event last year in Cleveland and was fortunate enough to get 3rd place in street modified first generation. Who would have guessed. I have been one of the fortunate ones to have their first Z and I always will because the car is so addictive. Love the site and all the free info., thanks.

I saw it and it was great. That is my favorite show.
  23. About 25 years ago I had a steering coupling made from a material called Fabreeka, it is a multi layered cloth impregnated with rubber. It works well, the original use is for vibration dampening of heavy equipment. Here is the link. http://www.fabreeka.com/products/fabreeka_pads.htm I might have the extra one I made, I would have to look for it.
  24. There is a guy in Oklahoma that sells centers and lugs his name is Rob Massey phone # 405-239-2010. I got mine from him for my Appliance wheels.
  25. My car was made in 11/75 and is a 76 model, I have the original spare tire and it was a Bridgestone RD-106 Steel, that is what it says on the tire in large letter.
