Well, I wound up with another low VIN Z...
How is it that these cars always show up somewhere else? I can believe the condition of the shifter boot, and the wire harness cover.

When you hear the poetic words from Mr Tamura, you can understand why the S30 was such a winner.

The 24th Annual Z Car Club Association International Convention will be held on Z Island (Formerly known as Hutchinson Island) The week of July 18-23rd, 2011. We'll bed down out at the world renound Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa, with the treasure being at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center. To run around in circles we will have an Indy lights track so close your engine won't have a chance to warm up before you get there-even in the Savannah heat! Bedding down in these five star digs won't cost you their typical mid July room rate of $309 a night, but $129 a night for a single room(limited availability) or $139 a night for a double. If you like beaning a dimpled ball with a club-the PGA championship Troon-managed golf course designed by Bob Cupp and Sam Snead is right here. Savannah's history and charm is a free ferry ride across the river, with arrivals and departures every 15–20 minutes from 7:00 AM until 12:00 AM (subject to weather and river traffic conditions)... You can take in all that the first capitol of Georgia, one of the original thirteen colony's, Americas most haunted city, and the Hostess city of the South the has to offer, from one of the largest historic districts in the United States, to the back drops for more than 100 movies like The Gift, Forest Gump, The Generals Daughter, the Legend of Bagger Vance, Forces of Nature, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Glory, Roots, Swamp Thing, and most recently The Last Song. We even have The Lady and Sons Restaurant opened by our own Food Network Star, Paula Dean-bet you didn't know she had a 350Z ya'll! We have lots of Down home events in the works to give you the full flavor of Southern Hospitality, from Truly Authentic Southern Comfort food from one of the original Colonies to PGA Championship golf! This is the year to experience Z Island! The Coastal Z Club of Savannah convention team is working out all of the details, and will post them here first, so be sure to check back with us! Registration will be held on Zcon.org and should start around early December! Plan early, stay late! -
Rear Defogger Renewal
This a old, old question that has never really been answered or addressed. These grids have had problems for many years. It would be interesting to hear how they performed when brand new. If they were like the blower fans, well use your imagination. Considering the switch is not very substantial, and I don't believe there is a relay, the amperage was likely low to begin with. Upgrading the defogger would likely require addition of a relay to supply higher current to the defogger grid. Here is an aftermarket product, but not sure how to use it vertically. They have complete kits. http://www.frostfighter.com/

Oil filter questions
With Amsoil it's once a year oil change, and you won't go enough miles to worry about it. Use the Amsoil filter which is rated to last the year. I think you can safely go longer than 1000 miles the first time, Amsoil isn't cheap. If your gaskets are bad, you will know it for sure, so make sure they're in good shape before you start. Redline is recommended for the manual transmission (as Amsoil appears to be too slick), and you can use Amsoil everywhere else. Do NOT put any additives in your oils, they are unnecessary and counterproductive.

Center Muffler???
The center one was a resonator wasn't it, and the rear a muffler?

Carl, I agree. There were many popular styling features used by various car makers during the 1960's. Yes, the Jaguar E-Type had a long nose, very characteristic of sports car with inline-six engines. It also served to balance weight front and rear. A hatchback design gave cars an aerodynamic look, as well as provided utility space. If sugar scoop headlight pods weren't used, then either popup lights or having a look like the Datsun 240Z Rally car is what we would be stuck with. So to those that say Matsuo, et al stole styling features from other companies is to say that these features could not have been arrived at by common engineering practices in order to achieve the styling and performance goals set by Nissan. Were they competing with other car makers, of course! Extend the nose of a 2000 Roadster and tell me you wouldn't have sugar scoops. The car is a two-seater that would naturally have a long engine bay for the given engine available. The Z was unique for sure.
