Lets see your shifter knob
Ok, this one isn't mine (it's currently attached to a 70 on ebay). It is rather unique, to say the least. I guess some people really do grab the bull by the horns after all!

Looking for a new ride...need advice
I'd lean towards the Skyline myself. Think of it as keeping it in the family! (variable all wheel drive would be a safety plus). The mini cooper is incredible! I'm 6'4" as well, and loved the fit and drive of the cooper S... 60 mph in second gear without even noticing... That is a car I could get into a lot of trouble with The S2000. That car made me very unhappy when it came out, as did the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky. I was/am simply unable to get into any of those three cars, let alone drive it as my legs are too long. Beautiful cars though. Of course you should take them all out for a test drive!

Junkyard & "Out to Pasture" Zs
That's one of the cars from the collection of 30+ z's from a few posts above, it would appear that the owner is perhaps trying to sell them one at a time. In the second photo (showing hatch), note the black z on the upper right- what rims are those? Think about how long those cars have been there... I wonder how many rare parts are in that collection (pantera deck, the turbo setup on this car...) It would be wonderful to go visit, and even better to bring them all home!

NOS bumpers, butterscotch seats, 2400 ohc cover (and car)
I recall some time ago several members were searching for butterscotch interiors, and that many folks are looking for the 2400 valve covers, crack free dashes, and everyone wants NOS bumpers (in the box, even). So, I was looking through epay, and came across this listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1973-Datsun-240z-project-or-parts-No-reserve_W0QQitemZ330270124105QQihZ014QQcategoryZ6187QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem 1973 240z, VIN: HLS30171658 BIN: $1,600 From the sellers description: Seems to me that this car has quite a bit of good stuff going with it and should be bought...

Any Help greatly appreciated-Hesitation
So the tank line was clogged... Have you taken the time to check the integrity of the rest of the fuel system? There is a small screen on your fuel pump-could be getting clogged. How old is the fuel filter? Could be full of same crud. Electrical-how are all of your electrical connections?

Fuel Leak from injectors
Welcome to the site! You do realize that we need photos of your car, don't you?!? I live about an hour and a half away and also have a 79. If you need some parts, I do know of where a couple parts cars are...

Junkyard & "Out to Pasture" Zs
I went to the yard nearby to pull a couple fuel pumps (and other bits-throttle body, afm, rubber boots...) and came across this interesting aftermarket addition to the engine. Didn't really feel like getting underneath the cars after that... Maybe after it cools down considerably and I am more sure that this one and all the little ones that were writhing about are gone... I couldn't see the head, no idea what type of snake it is, and saw upon my exit a nice six foot molten snakeskin in the brush. Moral of the story and quality of content for this thread: You may get more than you bargained for when you start digging into a parts car.

blue smoke how come
We all know that smoke should be gray. What you need to do is find out the luminance of your blue smoke and add equal amounts of red smoke and green smoke. The color Gray has the interesting property of having equal RGB values, with no color tint. So (50,50,50) is a dark Gray, and (200,200,200) is a light Gray. And Gray also has the characteristic that (50,50,50) has a Luminance of 50, and (200,200,200) has a Luminance of 200.

blue smoke how come
Check to see if your oil is too thick. If so, it's getting pushed out the exhaust manifold and getting all smoky from the heat in your muffler. The simple fix for this is to add water to your engine oil. That'll make it a bit thinner and you'll get much better gas mileage. I swear if you do this right after you fill the tank up, that tank will last a long time!

brush gaurd help
Well, you could start with something like this, but why stop there? Maybe you should find yourself an old datsun 4x4 truck, yank out all the guts from it and throw them in/on your Z? Slap on some mud tires and off you go! Or better than that, just get yourself an old datsun 4x4 truck and use it...

Sakura rims F/S...got $4k lying around?
Victor, you could always build some enclosures out of plexiglass or a simple skeleton frame and use the rims as furniture pieces-speaker stand, base to the entertainment center, end tables, dining table. The options could be endless, and therefor you would be able to rationalize purchasing more...

GT-R video
Nice clip. Jay states that he had an SPL 1600 in high school. I suppose that's where he got his taste in cars... And Mr. K visited his garage? That would be cool.

Center Vent Options?
What are the dimensions of the vent piece? Width, height, depth? I have the center vents from a spare s130 dash that I would be happy to send you, if it appeared that they would work (though comparing your unit to those in my dash, I don't think it would-but you never know). Having the dimensions would also help if someone were to go browsing at a pick-n-pull.

Center Muffler???
For what year/model are you asking about? Perhaps you are referring to the catalytic converter? Some more information will help quite a lot.

Carolina Trophy-2008 Rallye
Stumbling around the internet a bit ago and came across this site: http://www.carolinatrophy.com/ I thought "Cool! a rallye in my area (Western North Carolina)...I wonder what the age requirements are (for the cars, not the participating drivers)?" Alas, I was sooo happy to see that anyone with a pre-1980 car could get in. My first rallye...would the car be ready? Could it be ready? Wait, what does it cost... For competitors, entry into this unique and exciting event for a car and crew of two persons is US$4,950 Every car entry fee includes: *Five nights accommodation for two (double occupancy) at the incomparable Inn At Lake Lure, the historic hotel located on the stunning shores of Lake Lure, NC. *All meals and entertainment during the event, including full breakfast and lunch Monday through Thursday, a final breakfast Friday, a welcome reception and buffet dinner on Sunday, full dinner on Monday and Tuesday, and the grand finale banquet and awards party on Thursday. *All rally plates, car numbers, road books, time cards and other event-related materials. *Guarded, secure, overnight parking all nights. * A photo of your car in action during the event and a commemorative dash plaque * Preferred status for the entry of the 2009 Carolina Trophy *The use of our driver’s service desk and mechanical assistance crews throughout the event * A Carolina Trophy clothing package for each team, plus sponsor goodies Guess that explains why most of the photos in the galleries (while nice) are mostly of Ferraris and Porsches... Maybe the Z cars in the area should crash the party (not quite literally, mind you)! Though it does appear that there is a Datsun on the roster, a 1969 Datsun Fairlady Coupe from Pensacola, Florida! A member here perhaps?

Lets see your shifter knob
Here are a couple from the S130 generation. The 79 has a leather look and feel (though I don't think it's leather) and the 80 is a rubber/vinyl sort of cheap thing.

Well, I finally bought 0ne.....
Doesn't appear to be a bad starting point, that's for sure. I imagine under further inspection you will find more issues, but still... Congratulations, you will have some fun working on that one!

Replaced Caliper - Shrieking Brake
If the pads still have plenty of life in them, you might try going to the auto parts store and getting yourself some of that brake squeal stuff. If the pads are getting low, it may be a function of the pad letting you know it's about time to change them. Of course, if you do change out the squealing pads, be sure to change the other side as well (if not at all four corners).

Well, I finally bought 0ne.....
Well congratulations! Now, as you know, we all want to see pictures. I imagine that you will have your work cut out for you, but having found a car that has sat for that long and avoided all those years of usage and salt, should make the job a bit easier. Let the fun begin!

Kanji found when removing a dash
Since this thread has meandered a bit, I thought I would post this photo. It is of the underside of my center console. While my dash has some writing on it as well, I didn't take any photos while it was out of the car so I'll just have to wait on getting them. Anyway, this writing was certainly not intended for anyone to see, other than those assembling the car.

240Z in movies
You've got to have a quick eye for this one: Office Space. For those of you with the dvd, go to chapter 28 (they are discussing the software mistake while going down the freeway), and hit your slow button at 1:05 to 1:06, that's right ONE SECOND. There is a yellow s130 in the background behind the main character's head. This is what happens when you've seen a movie too many times...
