Major structural rust problem! HELP!
POR and similar products actually penetrate the rust (iron) and permanently change the molecular structure, preventing further rusting. If you use it in areas that are painted, IMMEDIATELY wipe the excess off with warm soapy water. It discolors everything within minutes. Pretty strong stuff... put a couple of drops on concrete and let it sit. It will turn the surface into a sticky, milk-shake consistency. Keep it off of your hands:finger:

Difference between L28 and L28E
I'm cotemplating dropping an 81 L28E into my 77. What's difference? I plan on modifying/rebuilding the L28E (cam, etc.), and when I'm done, doing the switch. Should I use the ECU from my existing 77, or should the 81 ECU be used?

mounting rear louvers
I just took mine off (personal preference). Mine was aluminum, same design you're speaking of. You must tilt up to wash rear window. Over time, it bends the metal at the top, where the hinges are screwed into the sheet metal. Makes the rear deck lid heavy, and depending upon the charge strength in your hatch strut(s), will slam/not stay open. FWIW

Plastic Interior Panels
If you're not crazy about spending $400, there is another option. If you're going to replace, you're going to be pulling them out anyway, Right? And probably sh it-canning them, Right? Pull a panel out, scrub it with warm soapy water... SCRUB it. Go to a car paint store, and purchase some SEM Vinyl Die and some primer (primer optional, but I recommend). Prime it, Die it, let it dry, step back and evaluate. My bet is that you'll be pulling panels as fast as you can, and heading straight back to the car paint store for more vinyl die. If you like it, you'll be in for MAYBE $50.00 and the time spent prepping/masking. Get the plastic interior rivets from MSA for maybe $6.00. BE CAREFUL pulling some of those panels... 30 year old plastic is Brittle-with-a-captial-"B". If you're not happy with it, then spring for the big bucks! Good luck. (by the way, SEM is the best. There are others, but I highly recommedn SEM)

compatible hood with 72z
I have a 73 parts car with excellent condition hood. I'm wanting to use it on my 77 (which has the vents). I just like the look of the "clean" hood, since I'm preparing to stripe mine. ...won't have to design around the vents. Vented hood is in excellent condition also. If you pay shipping, (from OH), I'll let one of them go cheap.

Identifying Manual Transmission Type
Thanks guys. Alan, my 77 is very close to being "just right". However, I've coveted a 5-speed tranny for quite a while. I had already justified the parts car, since: (1) -my windshield deductable is $250 US (the parts car's windshield is perfect); (2) -I need a new steering wheel (the parts car has a sweet steering wheel from a 93 300ZX) When I realized that this 73 parts car had a 5-speed, it was a no brainer. The car was DELIVERED to my house.... Total Price $300 US. That's why I'm doing it "backwards". Thanks again!:classic:

Identifying Manual Transmission Type
Maybe I'm being overcautious, but I'd like to KNOW that the 5-speed from my 73 240 will plug-and-play in my 77 280. I originally thought that 5-speeds were not available in 73 (and the existing 5-speed in the 73 was a previous owner modification). However, the Haynes manual indicates "Type FS5C71A" as an available 5-speed on 240's and 260's. From 77 on, the Haynes manual identifies "Type FS5W71B" as the optional 5-speed. Questions: 1- Do identifying marks exist on the main casing or rear extension housing (or anywhere else for that matter)? 2- If my 73 utilizes the older 5-speed, is it still plug-and-play with my L28?

Removing 5-speed from 240
I'm getting ready to remove a 5-speed from a new-to-me 73 240; for transplant in my 77 280. I have a Haynes manual, and am curious if there are additional hints to supplement the manual (or conversely, any errors in the Haynes)? wish me luck.... Mike

"New" 73
Emblems arent' in that good of shape, so you might not be interested. .:dead: Ill post pics this evening. Upon closer inspection, the right rear wheel has been damaged. Looks like somebody tried to handle the wheel by the decorative hub, using a pipe wrench. Oh, well. Still got the windshield, bonnet, and 5-speed:D

"New" 73
The wheels are going to take some effort to refresh, but if they clean up nice.... I've always liked this type.

"New" 73
I broke down today and bought a '73 for parts. I have a $250 deductable and windshield to be replaced; my "new" 73 has a perfect windshield and for $300, I got it delivered. Has a very nice 13" GT type steering wheel with Nissan badge. I'm figuring it came from one of the 90-96 300Z's. (My 77 wheel is mush). Has 4 excellent condition black mesh BBS-style wheels w/ polished aluminum "rings". Have Z emblem on center cap. Bonnet is perfect. I've been wanting to replace my 77 vented w/ plain bonnet. Is this a cooling issue w/ fuel injected engines? HAS 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION:D This is a HUGE bonus, and the main reason for the purchase. Car doesn't run currently, so I'm going on blind faith the tranny is good. (Clutch has good feel, and the tranny shifted very nicely from gear to gear FWIW.) Prev owner did not put the 5-speed in. I understand that 5 speeds were not available in 73. Am I to assume that it will "plug and play" in my 77 L28? Please say Yes.:devious: The interior diamond-like vinyl that covers throughout is PERFECT. Will this come out easily? and if so, does anybody want it? Body is shot, carpet is shot, engine is shot.

Why Toyota Four Runner Brakes?
In addition to the calipers, do you also replace master cylinder, lines, etc?
