It was my understanding that the vinyl color or the vinyl name was changed for the 73 from white to "off white". Correct me if I am wrong, because I have never heard it refered to "beige" even though it exists in Carl's list. In my opinion, as a person trained in color nomenclature (gemologist), what I have would be placed in the darker white catagory than the lighter brown. Bonzi Lon

When I took my panels (off white) out of storage after 27 years the chrome strip was in the bottom of the box. Wondering how I was going to repair, I noticed to my surprise that the plastic under the chrome was BLUE!!! A very close blue to the exterior. Going to leave them this way, now. Bonzi Lon
  3. Get the video, it will be worth more than you will pay. I have never been in ANY carb in my life, watched the video twice. Took carbs off, cleaned, adjusted, studied, put back on and tuned in less than three hours, taking my time. I now know how and why they work, very simple. Bonzi Lon
  4. Wow Warren, that was fast compared to mine, it lasted 27 years!!! But I do know how you feel. To me it was like the expectant daddy pacing the floor waiting on baby. And Oh Boy are you happy when the paint booth doors open. It really looks sharp. Bonzi Lon

Thank you all for the compliments. gogriz01: The color in not EXACTALLY 115 Blue Metalic, but "Painter Ray" found a chip in his system from a 1991 Chrysler Import called Fiji Blue Metalic, real close. We mixed it and not quite right so we tweeked it a little (extra silver metal and pearl) and came up with this, a few shades darker and brighter than what we could find next to original. We dubbed it " 115.5 Bonzi Blue Metalic". Mixing samples can get expensive, so choice WAS made. Big Oak: I hope it never looks like that again, that took 27 years. d240zx2: Painter Ray would of done it any number of ways depending on amount of time=cost. I'm on a budget so fenders and hood stayed on. Doors and hatch were removed to spray the jams in and out (were black, don't ask), the hatch was painted at angle and the doors were upright. The scoops were already off and he took the inspection lids and gas door off to get evey edge on these. 280~Master: I know we will find someplace we got light, I have a pint left. Justin260z: The only real way to tell is put both side by side, but I bet there is some difference, the chances of being spot on is astronomical. I'd really like to see group of blue Z's just for the shading, tones and hues, let alone shine, metalics and pearls. Thanks again, Bonzi Lon

"Painter Ray" and myself put the last coat of clear on Friday night at 11:30. We brought it out in the sun saturday afternoon for these photos. Now for final sand, buffing and assembly. I wonder if I will remember how it goes back together after taking it apart 27 years ago? Having it finally painted after all these years, is a shock to my system to see it all one color and this BLUE. I am very happy with the way it turned out. Bonzi Lon

Not in the 30 years I've owned it, but: I had a garage sale 3 weeks ago and a young (to me) 35ish lady saw the car and was real interested in it. She bought some stuff and I helped take it to her car. Out of the blue she asks me the same question and I truthfully answered her "no". She handed me her card and said, "Let's go for a ride when you get it done." Hurry up parts, paint and warm weather! Bonzi Lon

After waiting 27 years to get this done, a day or two faster or slower won't bother me. My advise, don't steal your stuff back. A guy got in trouble not to long ago for that, and you are in TX, they don't think highly of "Law Breakers". I know from experience. Bonzi Lon

After sitting in the barn/garage for 27 years (see avitar) my car is at Painter Ray's. The flatbed came yesterday to pick it up. The driver commented this was one fast car, he remembered them for that. I followed it out to Ray's, unloaded it and pushed it in a stall. An older gentelman came over and asked what it was and I told him. He just grunted and said it "looks faster en' hell." The flatbed driver said "It is, take my word for it." A little later a 20's something delivery guy looks at it and asks if it is a 260 or 280? I told him it was a 240. He looked puzzled and said "Never heard of that one." Now for the joys of a small town. My little sis and Ray were in the same class, some years ago he had some real estate he had to unload and sis bought it. When I asked Ray if I could help in the entire prosess he said no to everyone else, but since my family helped his, he would allow me to help whenever I wanted to. So now I get a paint job and get to learn the prosess from start to finish. With what work has been done he thinks this will take under a week. Pics will follow when done. Bonzi Lon
  16. A week ago I caught the last of the show where he reads a letter from a "Car Crazy" person. I really took notice when 240Z was mentioned. Very long and good story about the Z, but what happened after amaized me. Barry went into an editorial about the collectibility of "Import Cars" today (if a good rust free one could be found) and the time has come because the 240Z started it. Several minutes were spent on the subject. He said they had just done an "Entire Episode" on imports at a recent import show. This may be the show he was refering to. Looking forward to it. Bonzi Lon

I have a spare cowl hood I wanted to paint white and put the Japanese Rising Sun flag on it. Couldn't miss that one from the air. Bonzi Lon

The factory painted over good chrome on the stock wheel covers. Bonzi Lon
  19. I took one wheel cover, removed the center and stripped all the paint off. It is a very nice chrome underneath. They might look good this way. Anyone seen them on a car all chrome like this? The masking off is what took the most time. I went and masked off ALL of the dished areas, the rest was masked as original. My thinking is, there is no break line on the inner edge of the dish, so leave it and the bottom tang (?) chrome. See if it adds a little more chrome to the lower portion of the soon to be 115 blue, black tires, dark rims, or if it seems a bit too much chrome. I used Dupli-Color Wheel Coating WP-102 Graphite. This # was taken down some time ago as closest THEY (unk) could find to original and available. Two coats were applied. Taking off the tape was slow and done when the paint was dry yet flexable. I must say it is a different look, in person, the photos were taken at night in a garage. So what do you think, the dished out painted or left chrome? Little darker shade? Less metalic more flat? 21. Thinking that there were headlight gaskets in there originaly a quick search turned up that there ARE gaskets but NLA and no one really saying what to use or what they had luck with, so I just made some out of an old inertube. First I made a stiff paper pattern of where it went (fender side) using masking tape in places to hold it. And then using razor blades to cut it out in place, keeping a good clean sharp line on the outside edge, just recesed a little below the top of the fender. Took an old inertube and cut it up so it was flat and about the same thickenss overall, 1.2 mm to 1.7 mm. Placed the pattern on the rubber, taped it down and traced it with an ink pen, making sure the outside edge was nice and smooth. Using a board and a thumbtack to hold the rubber I very carefully cut out where marked with SHARP razor blades on the outside (visible) edge. Marked the holes from the pattern and used a paper hole punch on them, the perfect size. Put it in place and looks great. All of this from paper to post was under 4 hours, and 3 trips here and there. Making something I can't purchase makes me happy. Bonzi Lon
  22. This little gem was at the Branson Z Fest in May. It came from California and was sold at the event. It is a 72 and has a Rebello engine, unknown cc, 4 speed, steel beams in the doors then the door skin folded down over and welded, roll bar, other stiffeners, kawasaki (sp) windsheild, lap belts, and white latex paint. Ran great and sounded better, and it was street legal! And a Datsun pickup tailgate! too cool Bonzi Lon

Red pigments used for the paint were derived from IRON, and will over time fade (oxide) worse in the sun areas but also where covered with carpet, plastic panels, etc, it is still exposed to oxygen and other "things" in the air. The salt air on the trip over, new car smell chemicals, cigarette smoke, exhaust fumes....the list goes on. All will all fade at a different rate and reds oxidize at a faster rate than other colors. I would verify like 1 Bravo 6 said, then go with it and LOVE it. Bonzi Lon
