  1. Correct me if I am wrong, IIRC, the single 240Z strut has more pressure to hold the hatch up than each strut used on the 260 & 280Z. The link shows 2 are needed, and the pound range. must be for 260 & 280Z. I attempted putting dual 240Z struts on mine, welded in a bracket, capture nuts on hatch, got it all together, had to put my full weight on it to close, and felt the breeze on my nose when it opened. It was promptly removed. Has anyone used one of these on a 240Z hatch? I was lucky, bought a spare in 1980. At one time in 06 I remember seeing a guy in Canada that could repair, refurbish or restore them. Bonzi Lon
  2. My ZDDP of choice is www.cam-shield.com have been using it with regular oil since the refurbishment. The cost per oil change is about $4, some treatments are as high as $40. Research. The engine now has 10K miles. I will be taking the valve cover off for a look see & photos. I was convinced to using it (any zinc / ph product) after reading several threads on cam destruction from reduced z&p in the oil over the years. I figured it was inexpensive insurance if there is any chance. Bonzi Lon
  3. Blue: Interesting read, as I have cam 13001-N 3626, N-36 intakes, new rebuilt Paltech carbs, header...and it does scoot. (I truly remember it as stock w/flat tops.) blue 72: Interesting read on the inner casting differences, I used to work in a ductile iron foundry, like aluminum only hotter, shows they made a change, for the better? I see that yours is not legal yet, maybe get the other systems, brakes etc, working then address the light issue with a 'made for' or the DIY. I don't do wiring. It comes down to, safety vs cost. After my 73's refurbishment, I considered the lighting 'unsafe at night', was just like yours. I don't do wiring, so Dave's Harness was the only way. It performs as stated, looks great too, then you hide it. Bonzi Lon
  5. I was / am going to do a cc measurement on the 3 manifolds I have, E88, N33 & N36 that is on my car at the moment. I noticed right off, a cc gain (and thus flow), could be had by cutting the balance tube bolts off flush to the inside, they do protrude. I don't have access to a flow meter, was just going to measure volume. This would be done before ANY porting or polishing, wanting to get the stock numbers. Bonzi Lon
  6. From the information I have gathered, E-46 = 69-71 4 screw SU E-88 = 72 3 screw SU N-33 = 73 Flat top N-36 = 74 Flat top There is internet speak that the 74 N-36 has a 'little' bit better flow, and 'maybe' a few more cc volume. I haven't found positive proof yet. Bonzi Lon
  7. The center line on the temp gauge is about 165 degrees. Bonzi Lon
  8. Between cylinder #5 & 6. Bonzi Lon
  9. I took my 13 year old granddaughter for a ride around town. She really liked the little blue car, but 'no air conditioning?' Kids... The engine is very close to 10K miles in 3 years, after rebuild, then sat for 28 years. Runs like a 'Singer Sewing Machine', or would that be a 'Swiss Watch?' Bonzi Lon

  11. There was a 'Hubcap Annie' on East Colfax in Denver about 7-10 years ago. Last time I was in Denver it had closed or moved. Is it a chain store? Bonzi Lon
  12. The hand throttle should of been removed from the dealer before selling as a safety measure. Bonzi Lon
  13. Impact driver worked for me on the last 3. The first one I screwed up the head with a phillips screwdriver. The cheap Chinese vice grips would not work on it. The genuine 'Vice Grips' locked on it and it came right out, with liberal amounts of PB Blaster. Bonzi Lon

I bought 5 bags of 10 so I would have some spares left over. I tried to count them several times and came up with different numbers each time, it was between 34 & 38, just got 50 to be safe. They are small, light & cheap to have spares. Bonzi Lon

Welcome to the 'blue car club', looks great. Bonzi Lon
  16. A fire extinguisher is mounted behind the driver's seat of my 240Z. Even though it is a single purpose tool, it is still cheap insurance. Bonzi Lon
  17. As Blue said, 'get the RED cable'. I made the same mistake just because both were black, smoked the fuzeable link. Got the RED one, no more confusion. Bonzi Lon
  18. As a retired watchmaker / clockmaker, it was standard operating procedure, at that time, to have yearly service to a time piece to insure proper & correct function. That came printed with every watch / clock sold. It was started in the 1880's as mandatory for the Rail Road industry for mechanical watches, that spilled over into the electro-mechanical group. Over time, the fine oil used to lubricate will dry or thicken and slow it down or stop. I've noticed my clock is getting slower after running 7 years, stopped for 28 years, running for 3 years, now slowing down, but then so am I. Very nice find esprist. Bonzi Lon

  20. Powder coated fuel tank? Tell us more. It has to be super clean before baking, right? Do you coat the inside after baking? This is way better looking than just paint. I've found an old, non inflatable truck tire inner tube comes in very handy around the home & shop. Made a pair of headlight bucket gaskets before they were available again, glued a protective patch to the body metal above the + battery post, radiator drain plug gasket, paper punch made a perfect hole, can be used for fuel tank strap rubber or the upper pads, however, I do like the diamond pattern of yours better. The flasher canister on my 7/73 hangs down a little on the left side of the steering wheel, just right of the hood open pull lever, in line with the clutch. My turn signal problem was the contacts inside the switch. Just a WAG, could that alarm system have anything to do with it? Bonzi Lon

and not about the dumb stuff they did on Top Gear. then a segment about a car competition (the 24 hours of Lemons) While channel surfing I came across them talking about the 24 hours of Lemons, which I have heard of. Thought I might see some of it. Then 3 guys pull out machine guns and proceed to shoot the crap out of a Nissan Z, claiming they could of won if they hadn't killed it. Then it blew up in a fireball. Did you catch that part? I went on surfing. Bonzi Lon
  25. Oh, I understand all if the in-differences, motor oil, motor city, etc...it can be used both ways, interchangeable. However some can not, ie: windshield wiper 'engine'. Just one of those things. Bonzi Lon
