Was just wondering why a 1975 280z weighs 500lbs. more than a 240z and what weighs so much? Thanks.

larger 2.5 or 5mph bumpers, more emissions, stronger parts, ie door frames and more reinforcement, more accesories. sound deadening. just this and that hear and there.

the 240Z was a bare bones strictly stock sports car. no luxury what so ever.

Would it take extensive gutting/stripping to loose 400-500lbs in a 280z? Obviously I wont strip the frame, but what luxurys does it have to spare?

My 77 (that's a 280 here in the states) weighs 2460 with me and a tank of gas. It IS possible to lose weight off a 280 without sacrificing comfort. My car has a full interior, but I removed everything possible. Bumpers, AC, heater core, wiper stuff, spare tire, stereo, speakers. The good thing is, they are considerably stiffer than a 240 and would probably hold up better in an accident. I think a 280 could easily get down to 2200, but you would have to strip the interior.
