5 Speed Transmission

Featured Replies

It's been a year + & $28K for the restoration on my 1971 240Z. Just today added insurance and been driving around. Happy with the motor suspension results. Planning on driving back and forth to SLC to see my kids and thought I'd rather have a 5-speed transmission. Haven't found a trany yet. Wondering if I'll be able to change out the trans without pulling the motor?

Original 4-speed feels strong 73200 originals on it.

Yes, you can pull the transmission without removing the engine.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative.

  2. Drain the old transmission.

  3. Remove the 4 bolts holding the driveshaft to the differential.

  4. Remove the driveshaft.

  5. Support the transmission.

  6. Remove the crossmember.

  7. Remove the bell housing bolts.

  8. Pull the transmission away from the engine.

  9. Drop the transmission down.
