Hey All,

I'm hoping that someone out there has had this experience before and can help me out. My 260Z has never had a full compliment of working vents even though the piping appeared intact and all the knobs moved the right way.

Well I've finally got sick of it and pulled the dash apart to try and find the cause (the heater doesn't work either but I've figured that one).

It's all apart now and I have located a small gunmetal grey pot (for lack of a better word) that should have four hose's connected to it, D1, D2, S and I. Now D1 and D2 are connected and go to the diaphram that operates the flat between vent and feet/demister.

What I need to know is where should S and I go??? Is S suction? If so I think it should run through a hole in the firewall to the inlet manifold just next to the brake booster but I can't confirm it as there is no pipe!

As for I????

Could someone please shed light on this as it is very frustrating!

Thanks again All

Ross.

BTW There is no AC in this car (it's been removed by the PO).

There is a suction line there. It could be the "s" that you refer to.

It does go to the inlet manifold. If I remember I'll take a photo of it tonight and post it.

Why not test it with a piece of tube and sucking on it?

Thanks ZedRally, I'll give it a shot tonight and see if I can get some life.

I have only just requisitioned a piece of suitable pipe and I really don't know what I'm going to suck out of the existing piping so I'm not game to stick it in my mouth :classic:

Let me know if that is the right one though! Any thoughts on 'I'?

Cheers,

Ross.

Sorry,

Can't remember back that far [when I had my dash out].

From memory there is only 1 suction line and that lead back to the 2 relays mounted on the RH side for the A/C system.

The I may have something to do with the A/C?

As an afterthought, I'll take some shots tonight of the original set up.

I think the PO may have stuffed things up by removing the A/C as the suction line does go back to the vac relays on the RH side before joining up with the Inlet Manifold. Funny things happen when you turn on the air, flaps open and close etc.

Sorry about the poor resolution with these.

The battery was playing up and I couldn't use the flash.

The I will in most probablity be connected to the throttle dashpot. This was used to increase engine revs when the A/C was used.

All that you need to do is connect the suction line directly to the manifold and all shouild work OK.

Cheers for the photo's Zedrally. The PO has indeed removed those two relays from next to the fusible link.

I'm going to try and hook the S straight up to the engine and the I.... Well I'm not sure but I've found a pot in the passenger foot well with nothing hooked up to it. I'll try that tonight and tomorrow then get it all back together and see what happens!

Thanks again,

Ross.

Well it's all hooked back up but I'm not getting anything.

On checking the suction line it appears that it's blocked, so I've got to figure out where it's blocked now!

If it's not one thing it's another.

R.
