Posted February 24, 201213 yr comment_381922 Short version of post in engine section. Can the dizzy, oil pump and oil pan be left in place when removing the front cover? Head is not torqued down. I've read lots of post re: cam sprocket not lining up, but somehow even after wedging the chain in place B4 removing the head it has managed to slip about 3-4 links from where I marked it and I'm not sure just how much a timing difference this will make. Thanks. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/42395-cam-sprocketchain-questions/ Share on other sites
February 24, 201213 yr comment_381926 You should just loosen the pan bolts to let it hang down a little. You will obviously have to remove the few bolts that go through the pan into the front cover. The dizzy drive shaft from the oil pump, goes through a hole inside the front cover. So the dizzy and oil pump have to come off.You have to do this anyway as you have lost the timing. February 24, 201213 yr Author comment_381930 Thanks olzed, I just rechecked the chain and its off by 2 links from where I started. I kinda figured I would end up taking off the front cover, but was hoping not to, its a PITA, but easier since the engine is out of the car. February 25, 201213 yr comment_381968 Yeh, I kept thinking I had the dizzy timing out by one tooth, then it was right all along. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/42395-cam-sprocketchain-questions/#findComment-381968 Share on other sites
