'73 240Z Hood Scoop for sale on Ebay

Featured Replies

I read about these hood scoops in a book about Zs and this is the first one I've seen for sale...this one is for sale on Ebay now. The guy also has a European urethane front spoiler for sale.

I remember seeing a couple of these "back in the day," but really

don't remember them being sold thru the Parts Dept. Maybe they

were in the Competition Dept catalogue, I really don't remember,

much less recalling how much they originally sold for.

What I'm thinking is: by itself, it would be a bolt-on accessory that

tricks up a Z but makes that area of the hood awfully hard to wash

and shine without removing it. And to be truly functional, you

would have to cut vent holes of some type in the hood in order for

the hot air to escape out the sides of the "scoop," which for most

people is unacceptable.

From eBay ad:

They were designed to vent heat out of the engine compartment on the 73-74 cars with the Hitachi flat top carbs as a last resort fix but most of them were sold through Datsun Competition instead.
I have catalogs from Nissan Motorsports, Nissan Competition Dept., and Datsun Competition Dept., ranging back to the earliest one they printed and there is no mention of this scoop/vent in any of them.

It's listed in the 1975 280 dealer accessories catalog as a Datsun Competition hood vent. I think it's a dealer install option.
