While I haven't any interest in doing the lambo door thing to my Z, I am wondering if anyone else has actually done it and with what results? The cool factor is okay, but it would seem to me it would be a colossal PITA to operate, seal, and so on.

I remember seeing one at the Veterans Car Show done by this company. The actually opened and closed fairly smoothly. Not something I'd ever be interested in either, however,except maybe on a Lambo:

Sometimes "COOL" is over blown. Stick with what you have as far as doors are concerned. If you want all that HOOPDY stuff get some old Impala or something. Most of that crowd doesn't even know what NISSAN used to be.
