Shock Dust Covers P/N 54055-N3700

Featured Replies

Hey All,

I am looking at redoing a lot of the suspension I notice a lot of people leave the shock bare. I know that there are shock dust cover to help prevent dirt and dust from getting in. I was wondering what thoughts there are on these? The parts are still available:

54055-N3700 COVER-DUST FRONT SUS

54057-N3700 RING-SNAP DUST COVER

I am just wondering why no one uses them? Is it that they are unnecessary? Too expensive? Difficult to install? I know they came for later cars but would make sense to protect the shocks so I am just wondering why people do not use them.

Do you know if these with other shocks than KYBs? From the looks of them the bump stops are rubber. Looks like a much cheaper option.

BD lists them in their catalog for all s30's. I bought them from Amazon but their site says will not fit. I'll know soon enough.

Thanks let me know how they work out as I am curious to install these too. I also saw them on amazon for a good price.

Unnecessary. Shock failure due to dust is next to a non-issue with aftermarket struts. Can't say I've ever heard that complaint before.

Follow up for the kyb boots and stops. I consider them to be junk. The boot is a semi ridged plastic and I doubt I'll use them. Often you get what you pay for, this time I didn't pay much and really feel I came up short. I'd put them in the "non recommended" file.

Thanks yeah I have decided not to go that route too, just going to use the energy suspension bump stops.

I used the KYB boot with the built in bump stops, with Eibach springs. I get some soft clunk noise from the rears when I go slowly over bumps. The noise is dependent on which side the bump is on. I've been under the car several times, and the only thing I can figure is the noise comes from those boots and/or the bump stops, which really are too deep. Some day I'll take it back apart and remove the things, just to prove my theory, but for now I'm satisfied that nothing else is loose or rubbing, so I'm not in a hurry.
