Gearbox Question

Featured Replies

I was under my 72 240 today replacing a switch along the side of the gearbox that had been leaking oil through the centre mechanism, and weeping out beside the wires. It has been doing this for 11 years LOL at one drop every one or two days

This switch is for the reverse lights. There are two other switches which have no wire attached. I think this five speed tranny is from a S30 Japanese domestic 2000cc. Does anyone have a guess what the other two switches are for? My guess is a neutral safety starting switch for one of them. The other I don't have a clue. Just curious.

Someone here mentioned that on the 5 speed, one of them was to lean the mixture out in 4th and 5th gears for the later year cars. Obviously on a 71 there was no such feedback mechanism.

Actually they were there to change the timing in 4th and 5th on the US cars. If that's the same setup over there no need for them in a 71.
