Engine Assembly

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I am assembling my rebuilt engine and I had a question.

In which position should the cam shaft pulley be in?

There is a 1, 3, or 3. What should be facing up?

If my cylinder No.1 is all the way at the top, and my pulley is at 0, what should my cam shaft pulley be at?

If you have pictures or something that will make it easily identifiable then I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

I can't remember the specifics, but the 1, 2, and 3 on the camshaft sprocket is used to compensate for timing chain wear. With a tight, new timing chain, the proper position would be 1. As the chain wears, it can be shifted by a tooth and the sprocket moved to 2... and then another shift to 3.... and then it's worn out.

Thank you ;)

Now I have to get the chain onto the wheel, the only problem is the engine is in and I don't know how to make the tensioner move so that I get that extra milimeter....

You can't install the timing chain if the front cover is in place and you didn't wedge the chain before you removed the sprocket.

Im stuck again, I have the chain on now, and its exactly where I want it TDC, 12 O'clock and all that jazz...but, the damn front cover wont go into place. I try and try to put it on but it still has clearance from the block about | |

Im not sure whats the problem... Is there a secret way to put the cover on?

make sure that the holes for the alignment pins are cleaned out. It should go on fairly easy.
