correct speedo cable?

Featured Replies

Hey I bought this speedo cable from napa the other day and it fits in fine in the tranny but i can't for the life of me get it to fit in the back of the speedometer.

The inner cable seems to be too long. I have attached a pic.

Any help would be appreciated

If the "square" drive end is long enough, cut it off to allow the end to go into the speedo head, and the nut to tighten without bind.

I also just ordered a speedo cable from Napa. Hasnt arrived yet. Are you using the OEM speedo cable housing? Let us know how it work for you. Very interested.

no but i have the oem housing, i wonder if that would work, if its longer i suspect it would

I will give it a try in the morning and see

Napa price 18.00 bucks, can't beat that

MSA gets expensive on this little stuff

I installed a new speedometer cable i got from Napa. I removed the cable from the houseing and cut 1/4" off the cable. Then i inserted to new cable into the old OEM housing. Works great and no bouncing. Give it a try.

awesome, i still have the old housing laying around, but if all you had to do was cut off a little, maybe ill just keep the new housing on

question, did you have any fraying of the speedo cable when you cut it?

Yes i had just a little so i filed it down smooth. Fits into the rear of the speedo firmly.

Do any of you have a part number for a generic speedo cable that worked?
