Car won't start

Featured Replies

I haven't driven the car much since the engine rebuild, in fact only had it broken in on a dyno then a track day and drove it from one side of atlanta to the other.

I recently sold the car but have been working on some title issues, that we finally cleared up, and on friday, I moved the car out of the garage to do some other work and it started fine, on saturday, when I went to take it on a proving run before its long drive to the new home, I couldn't start it.

It cranks for a second or two, lights off for about 2 revolutions and dies.

Its an L28 with SU carbs,

any ideas?

Have you checked to make sure the fuel filter isn't clogged?

If it kicks over just a bit maybe one carb is clogged. if you pull the spark plugs you can tell by the color if it is firing or not.

Maybe a weak spark? What kind of ignition?

I'm pretty new here and it sounds like you know what you are doing so I apologize if these sound really obvious, and/or beneath your experience level:)

I might sound like I know what I'm doing, but I really just muddle along.

The plugs look fouled, so i will replace them and try again.

fouled plugs. I guess too much idling with the choke on, and not enough real running of the engine.

Just wondering... what brand & number plugs are you using? In my several L24's the only plugs that worked well were NGK (BP6ES or BPR6ES). Champion, Bosch, etc., would foul relatively quickly for me - that's been my experience anyway, and I'm confident that there are others that will agree.

they were motorcraft, I replaced them with Bosch. Wanted to use NGK, but noone local had them either time.

I agree with the NGKs , but the motor should at least run with the new plugs regardless which brand they are. Maybe not to its potential . Champions bit the dust when installed in my engine. My PO ''tuned her up" LOL I barely made it home.

Yes, the motor should fire up with any proper plug fitted. My post wasn't clear in that my poor results with other than NGK plugs would pop up within maybe 250 ~ 500 miles driven.
