Trying to install a cd/radio deck in our 78 280z. Looks like console needs to come out- removed all screws I could find but still seems quite attached to floor. Ideas?

Does it wiggle like you missed a screw still or is it

stuck solid?

I have a 78, but my console was from a 76. are there any screws inside the ash tray in the back, or the cigarette ash holder in the middle?

It's seems stuck solid at either side of the shift boot just below. The plastic is old and brittle and I'd hate to crack it removing this thing. My Haynes manual only shows a console diagram from a 240 and the 280 is different.

We found 2 screws on either side up under the dash, 2 more at opposite end of the console in the storage box, but thats it so far. Took out the ash tray and couldn't find any clips or screws there. Do I need to remove the leather bonnet around the stickshift to get into underneath there to get at more screws or clips?

There should be three screws in the storage box, two at the rear and one at the front. Lift it up, unplug the ashtray light and the lights/switches below the radio opening and it should lift out.

I just removed mine recently. There are two screws up front, on the side near the radio. As I recall, there are four more screws in that area which hold the radio mounting bracket to the console. Don't need to remove those.

Then there are three screws in the storage compartment.

That is it except for the wires that need to be unplugged.

I think we missed the third screw in the storage box. We're hitting the garage after lunch and will have another whack at it this afternoon. THANKS for info.

I fount it a little easier getting the console out if you frst remove the plate with the vents in it ( fours screws & two plugs.) You also get more room to work under the heater controls.
