Posted November 7, 200618 yr comment_188636 I will be picking up a rearview mirror (center) from a late model Monte Carlo soon, and I just would like to know what kind of electrical requirements it requires. I know it has two map/reading lights on the bottom, and I think it might be auto-dimming, and maybe even have a compas in it. When I looked, there were 3 or 4 light gauge wires coming from it, and those wires are the question. They could be from the door sensors, or running lights, etc.I'm not sure I would keep it in my Z permanently, but I'd like to at least check it out and maybe have it available for touring, then remove for shows.thx Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22215-electric-rear-view-mirror/ Share on other sites
November 7, 200618 yr comment_188638 Been there, done that!It is a Gentex mirror(most domestic cars(and imports) use their versionsIf it is just an autodimming version it will have three wires, the map lights may require a fourth(I have seen them both ways), a compass is four or five and a autodimming mirror that also controls the side meirrors-well, I'm not quite through with that jewel...These mirrors all are a glass mount, and the adaptor kit does not work for use in a Z.WIllPM me for more... November 7, 200618 yr Author comment_188642 I'd have to drill & tap a hole for the mounting screw. I figured for the auto the dimming, it only need 1 extra wire for the outside lights. November 7, 200618 yr comment_188643 Tomohawk, I'm not following you in the mounting, but don't let that slow you down. The glass mounts have a metal plate that glues to the window, and a fitted recepticle that slides over it that is held in place by a set screw. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/22215-electric-rear-view-mirror/#findComment-188643 Share on other sites
November 7, 200618 yr Author comment_188696 You're right, Will, but the newer mirrors don't have the locking screw. They also have a plastic receptacle, so maybe a metal insert for the lock screw will be needed.
