"Z roar"

Featured Replies

This has always perplexed me. What exactly causes the "Z roar"? I've read on some webpages that this is due to the fan clutch, but nothing I've read has really determined this with any certainty. Of course I'm referring to that unique almost whining sound that 280ZXs make (Do other models do this as well? I really don't know, hehe, but I do remember that the fairlady 300's don't do it). The car has always made that sound as far back as I can remember. Very unique and very cool, I think, but I'm just wondering what causes it. Anyone know?

in not exactly sure what your talking about when you say "Z roar". My speculation could also be the intakes (again i dont know what ur talking about) or just the fact that its got an I-6 under the hood...those thing have a different sound then that of a V-6

While I am not entirely certain what you mean by Z roar, is this your first Z? The inline six makes a distintive sound that you may not be used to if your comparing it to other engines. Can you be more specific on the sound? You might try taping it and making a .wav file and posting it so we can better assist you.

Um, did you say 280ZX? [Looks up at site name and back down again]. Um, okay. :ermm:

Perhaps he has a 280ZX turbo because that would certainly make a "unique almost whining sound".............

Between what rev range is the sound made?
