Installing Short shifter

Featured Replies

Is it possible to install a short shifter kit, like MSA's, with the gearbox in place.

Can you do it with the console removed?

Assuming you can get to the contact point of the gearshift lever (it is a Datsun tranny?). I installed the MSA one with just the center console removed. The hardest part was getting the leverage to slip the rubber cover over the base of the lever where it mounts to the transmission, due to the narrow hole in the floor, but the rest of it was pretty easy.

Well worth the effort! The short shifter requires a little more effort (the leverage is less favorable), but its utility is well worth it.

It has the original 4-speed gearbox. Is it easier to slip the rubber cover over the base from beneath when the car is on jack stands?

Just installed the MSA kit last weekend, the boot is the toughest part, but very doable by just removing the console.

The boot as all said before is yoru nemesis. Take care and time and all will come to you, easily done with the console removed. Just take your time so you dont lose anything, and curse yourself when you have to crawl under the car.

The Short shift kit sold by MSA is the best way to go, or is it the only kit on the market?
