Oil capacity on '83 ZX 5sp tranny

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have the tranny out of my 240z (an '83zx 5sp) and want to change out all of the oil. I've seen a couple different capacity levels listed for filling.

Is 3 1/8 pints an accurate capacity level for refilling?

thanks

As long as you have enough gear lube on hand, just fill the tranny until it comes out the fill plug hole...just like filling a differential. I believe the FSM provides transmission lube capacities.

I just filled my "82 5 speed and it took a bit less than 2 quarts.

Hey Bill,

Now that you have the '73 painted, you will have to change your signature line!

True, true - as long as you apply the 20/20 rule (20ft at 20mph) it looks great!

Now to just get it all back together!

The manual says 4 1/4 pints or a little more than 2 quarts. (2 liters!)

That seems to be right - I've seen a few different listings.

I filled it up a couple days ago and two quarts seemed to do it - thanks!
