Posted December 18, 200420 yr comment_105467 well, my rear SU died today on the way to work. i'm driving, then all of a sudden the car starts shuddering and dies. i think it's out of gas (since it's on E) and so i get a gas can and fill it. get the car running (rough) and pop the hood. tada! gas is pouring out of my rear air cleaner and the float bowl of the carb... great.... anyway, i'm planning on getting the ztherapy carbs, but do you think it would be worth it to check some other options (rebuild my own carbs, get rebuilt ones from a local source)? i'm kind of strapped for cash (very), that's the reason i ask. anyway, i'm leaning towards the ZT carbs since i'm going to end up getting them anyway, but it looks like i won't be doing anything else to my car for a while if i do.... December 18, 200420 yr comment_105468 If it isn't one thing it's another?! Until you figure out where the gas is coming from exactly it will be difficult to determine a proper course of action. Maybe you just need to rebuild the carbs (gaskets and OEM hose). Carefully take the carb apart to see what's wrong. If you can rebuild it yourself. Then save your money and then get the Z therapy carbs. I did a little homework while I lived there in beautiful San Diego. I had some old SU's with the bushings wornout. I looked around for a machine shop that would replace the bushings and machine a new throttle shaft. I also looked into replacing the bushings with bearings (like the Ztherapy ones). Anyway, to make a long story short, you can't beat the price or quality of the Ztherapy rebuilds.$.02 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14365-damn-busted-carburettor/#findComment-105468 Share on other sites
December 18, 200420 yr comment_105470 gas is pouring out of my rear air cleaner and the float bowl of the carbThis is a common problem that's easy to fix. Either the float is stuck in the down position or the needle valve that the float opens and closes is stuck. Sometimes rapping on the float bowl cover will unstick it but you can also just remove the 4 screws that hold the cover on, remove the cover, and figure out what the problem is. December 18, 200420 yr comment_105480 My guess would be a piece of grit holding the needle and seat open. When you have the lid off, take the final filter out behind the fuel inlet tube and see how much garboon is packed up in there and clean it out too............We'll do the carb thing when you're ready.Damn another lost order. :disappoin :disappoin Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14365-damn-busted-carburettor/#findComment-105480 Share on other sites

December 19, 200420 yr comment_105514 According to the ZTherapy website, they no longer sell grose jets. I believe that it is quite difficult to find them anywhere, now days.
