240Z runnin funny....

Featured Replies

I have recently

-adjusted the carbs,

-replaced the spark plugs/wires,

-replaced the points with electronic ignition,

-replaced any worn or bad fuel or vacuum hoses....

I still get backfires and it sounds like it's missing again.

So I thought maybe the firing order was backwards...

Correct me if I am wrong, but clockwise it should be: 3-5-1-4-2-6, right?

Please help me figure out what's wrong.

Thanks.

1-5-3-6-2-4 In the direction tha the rotor turns. (I think that is COUNTERCLOCKWISE) Try that. I think you got it out of sequence.

I counted that clockwise.

I assume the rotor runs clockwise also, no?

I don't think so. Anyway, wire it like this attached photo and you'll be correctly wired.

Here...check out this link/photo.

This is what mine looks like.

Does that look like the correct setup?

That is my photo. Rotor moves COUNTERCLOCKWISE. "IF" you have it like the photo shows, you are wired correctly on that end of the plug wires. Double check the other end of the wires, it's easy to get 2,3 or 3,4 or 4,5 mixed up.

(damn internet connection crashed)

Good photo by the way.

Okay, that's how I'm set up.

I guess since that's correct...it's back to square one.... :sleepy:

Anyway. Thanks for your help!

Maybe I need a new motor... :devious:

I editted my last post since you posted. Double check both ends of the wires.

If the engine WAS NOT running this way before you worked on it, it's likely that something isn't adjusted right, and doubtful that you would need a new engine.

What kind of electronic ignition did you install? Did you adjust the timing after installing the new ignition?

Adjusted the tappets before you tuned the car? Could also be a fuel issue, do you have an itermittant blockage?
