HELP!!! Car Revs out of control!!!

I finally have my second motor in my car, go to start it and... it turns over, starts, idles ok for a second and starts reving like it taking off to outerspace. I had to kill it. tried again, same thing.

Odd thing it didn't run rough (ie bad timing) and it started right up, it just wanted to rev up like a dyno run without my foot on the gas.

Its a 280 with FI and pretty much everything have been apart, so I just need to know if anyone knows what I should look at to narrow this down. I hope it didn't damage the motor...

HELP HELP HELP

any one in Dallas is more then welcome to stop by and check it out, It's quite a sight at present...

well, i would start with the simple things first. first i would make sure that the butterfly (throttle plate) isnt stuck open. you should be able to pull the air flow meter and peek inside the throttle body. if it is open i would look at the lingake to make sure it isnt binding. if its closed like it should be, i hate to say it, but i would be at a loss.

I thi9nk I would suggest you also check the wiring to the AFM. The throttle is mechanical, and the dizzy is mechanical, so those can't go wild without the engine wild first. The rest of the wiring is temp, oil & water sensors, plus alternator.

the only thing I can think of is the computer/AFM not communicating, so the computer thinks it's running at WOT...

Whatever the problem really is, is simple....

when you find it.

I think I have it narrowed down to a selectively sticky throttle cable. (yes cable) It articulates properly except it binds the last few centemeters and sticks open enough to make the crazy high idle. I cranked it down so I would idle really low and it seems to act a bit better. But there is still an issue with it binding and def. something wrong w/ the motor. I either have a mechanical problem or an exaust leak bc it just sounds awful.

thanks for your replys, it's always something easy (?)

more work to do...
