Original paint color of a 280
By the way, I spoke to Carl Beck via email about this. It turns out the 215 on zhome.com is an error. It should be 216 White as shown on your sticker. He's planning to update that sometime soon. Also in another thread we were discussing the possibility that there was an orange (or red) color for the 280Z's. Carl told me that he didn't have access to '77 or '78 paint code information when the list was generated. So he'll also look into that and ask around on the list to see if anyone can come up with a code for that one. Sooo... I guess I'll update my page also, and CCC, if you repaint your Z with 216 please send me a pic! Michael

Paint Code
Hey CCC, Yeah I think we went over some of this in a recent thread. I should really gather the "evidence" up and see if I can make any sense of it. Im' not sure of the best way to research this kind of stuff besides going through the info on the web. I sure as hell can't afford anymore Z books and we all know how much info in many of those are crap anyway. Thanks for the tip michael

- I need 240Z fender parts, please!!!
oh and I'd only sell it to you if you swap the order of the cars listed in your sig...- I need 240Z fender parts, please!!!
New or used? Where are you in Texas? I wouldn't want to ship one. I think I have 2 of each fender used of course, and possibly would need a little work.- MSA Speaker Box and other Speaker Advice
IF you're talkign about 6" coaxials there's really very little difference in sound if the speaker quality is comparable. The distortion caused by the oval shape of the speaker is really insignificant. Now if you mean 6" seperates that's a different story. The funny thing aoubt all this is that 6x9s and coaxials DONT BELONG IN BOXES! They are designed for free air, and even if the ones you have happen to be designed for a box (maybe 0.5% of them), any ol box (such as the MSA one) wouldn't work. It'd have to be the correct volume for the speaker and it'd be darn small, and you wouldn't mount both speakers to the same open box. The whole box thing is just a scam because so many people are dumb enough to believe all speakers belong in boxes. The only thing I will give those MSA boxes is that they probably provide a very sturdy mounting surface for the speakers, which is what will make the biggest difference in sound quality for combo speakers. The thing is you could do that yourself with a piece of plywood and you sure as hell don't need that big box. I'm still waiting for someone to make some nice speaker pods for the front. That's where the sounds needs to come from, except for the bass of course.- Original paint color of a 280
Oh I just found the site where you can pull up paint chips by make and year. http://www.autocolorlibrary.com/cgi-bin/search/search.pl Don't know how accurate these are and of course you can't select them by model. Anyway it could help. michael- Original paint color of a 280
Are you sure it's not 215? Also where are you? The only Paint code lists I've seen are for US cars. There could be differences overseas. Could you take a picture of the sticker and post it here? I'm sort of collecting information on early Z paint codes. Michael- Photochoping contest....
errr.... i though this was the vote thread. mods - please delete this post and the one above it. thanks- Photochoping contest....
I didn't upload mine but here's the link: http://www.utdallas.edu/~perdue/240z/6123350zroadster22mperdue.jpg I guess it's too late to be included in the vote though michael- Anyone have an orange 280?
one more piece of evidence I just thought about (mabye redundant). Just last week I talked to a friend to mentioned that back in the 70's he had an orange (or persimmon) 280Z original paint. so there was at least one more out there. Proxlamus - do you still have the original paint code sticker? I'm wondering if it's the same used for the 240Z's or a different color. Something that might be helpful would be to find the datsun/nissan paint chips for those years. Somewhere on the site there is a link to an online paint or car parts dealer that lets you pull up JPG's of any manufacturers paint codes for any year. I can't find the link now. It wouldn't tell you which ones were used for Z's but it could at least supply the paint codes for the ones we suspect were available. Not sure where else to look for this kind of info. Maybe photos of dealer car lots back in the 70's? Or photos from old Z meets - before they started being re-painted. The details of Z paint codes really interests me and I'd like to see it all straightened out. I've been working to fill out the gallery on my website for all interested in this. Though I've started taking shortcuts, such as stealing pics from Ebay from owners claiming to have original paint, I'm trying to keep it as accurate as possible. I've also added the Zzzap and Black SE's that aren't in Carl's list. http://www.datsunprojects.org/zpaintcodes.html - Putting 82 Rear disc'c on a 77
