I havent had any success with weatherstripping. I am on my third set and the doors still need to be slammed. The last set I bought was supposed to be the answer, put a set of 77-78 door seals on my 71, but that didnt work. With the weatherstripping off I can close the doors like a new car. My next move is J C Whitney seals. They look pretty generic but come in a range of thicknesses and shapes. Good luck with yours. :stupid:

What I heard was that it was supposed to quiet the problem, not fix it.

Are your throttle bushings sucking air? Spray some Carb Clean at the throttle links going into the carbs. If the car wants to die then they are leaking. I had the same problem with front and back carbs doing the same thing as yours. I found the rear throttle bushing was bad.

Could the rear end gears be sloppy? I read that lead grease was put in whenever there was a clunk...even when the cars were new !! I'm fighting the same noise and my next step is inside the diff. It only makes noise from a standing start. Just like the gears are "hooking up".

Thanks for the info. I didnt look hard enough at the II to see it wasnt available. I will be buying one soon thanks to Ted Williams (1956 Topps #5). Thank GOD for EBAY !!! San Fran sounds like a fairy nice place.........

I'm gonna be one of those guys who switches from points and was looking for input on Pertronix. Is II better? Can original tach be used? I've got a 71 240, stock w/ header. Are there better options?
