Info needed about my 71 Fairlady Z
I like seeing these time-capsule finds even if they're not prisitine. It's informative for me to see how these cars were trimmed back in the day e.g. was the '71 tranny tunnel carpeted or diamond vinyl, when did the quarter panel window emblem change, where was the emblem on the rear wing, where to mount the fender mirrors, etc. Thanks for pics...good luck with your project! (I don't have much experience with RHD cars but I'm left-handed in a right hand oriented world ) What was the manufacture month of your car? Mine was 4/71 and has the "later" style quarter panel emblems (I believe they are original to the car...but this conflicts with the supercesion dates I've seen elsewhere...just some Z-nutia... :beard:

Info needed about my 71 Fairlady Z
Wow thata's a gem in the rough but if you're up to it you'll have something really nice when you're done...looks like it has dealer installed 5-slot wheels with the "D" logo, the original style rear spoiler and flares...and a right hand driver...curious how the PO exported it to the states... To your ? I think that most of the "generic" parts for the 70-73 should be interchangeable...does yours have the rear vents in the rear hatch...those are different than from later in '71 on...what's the manufacture date? Being a righthand driver it mave have some peculiarities in parts...I think there are some specific Fairlady sites that can also be of more help...

Fed up w/'73 electrical BS. I want to rewire?????
Geez man sounds like a mess..sorry for your troubles...I've not experienced these types of things but maybe better as you say to rewire than troubleshoot...this might be of help...not mine but if it's electrically sound could be "just a swapout", at least it's for your year car...good luck with it... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240z-full-vehicle-wiring-harness_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ10076QQitemZ4573916961QQrdZ1 :beard:

Thanks for the link! :beard:

Were the original Z calipers painted a color?
Anyone? I've seen "green" referenced as the OEM color on the 510s calipers wondered if that was consistent across all models at the time... :sleepy:

Under hood rubber seals...
Excellent, thanks for the confirmation...I thought they may have been for the purpose you described...I was trying to relate the description of that piece with the hood to cowl seal...it's very close...if my paint guy pulls the fenders, we'll see if I need to replace them, so one less thing to think about right now...thanks again. :beard:

Under hood rubber seals...
I saw those also...but these seem to run the length of the fender, starting from the inspection lid cut out to the nose...

Finally gettin' 'er done...

Under hood rubber seals...
I'm in deep on my '71 resto and while looking through the parts catalog noticed two rubber sealing strips indicated for the sides underhood(where the hood mates to the fender lip)...I've been looking through manuals, miscellaneous pics, etc. to see where these seals should be installed...I haven't seen any pics yet showing these under the hood...I know about the hood to cowl seal but haven't seen any threads discussing these... Does anyone know about or have these rubber seals on their ride? Thanks... :beard:

where to buy?
Are you close to Streamwood? http://www.ultimatez.com/aboutus.html

where to buy?
Where are you located? If there is a Z specialist or good mechanic near you, you'll probably do better than through a dealer (unless they really care about the older Z generation...like Courtesy and others...) I'd wait to source parts elsewhere before committing to the dealer...although keep in mind some of the suspension parts like bushings aren't expensive on their own but the labor to get at some of the locations to r/r will get you... :beard:

rear hatch hinge seals
Thanks...I hope that some of the parts I need are still available...it's odd that they would give a price for an item that's not available....it would be a waste of time for all involved...have you ordered parts from them before?

rear hatch hinge seals
I know it was an old thread but it got me thinking about this part since I'll be going into paint soon and need it...I just did a parts search for those numbers at that site and got pricing info on it...from another thread where a member ordered an "NLA" NISMO strut tower got pricing and received his part recently, I'm hoping the online info is good, I'll verify with the site people next week...if not I'd be very interested in your friend's repo part...I'll let you know if my info is good...

240Z Nismo Strut Tower Bar ?
I just did some parts searches from the factory parts catalog and found hits on about 97% of the part #'s I entered with pricing...based on your experience, I assume if it's priced and not "X" 'd out it's a valid part sitting in a warehouse somewhere...this could get VERY interesting...I'm going to call up on Tuesday to validate my "finds"...thanks again for the link!!! :beard:

jmark...this link is unbelievable...I've been able locate some parts I thought were long NLA for my '71...the NISMO rear spoiler (too bad I already bought the CDM 432 style spoiler), fan shroud, even door finishers, and dashes, certain door and window moldings...I've already loaded up my shopping cart with $1500 worth of wishfull and needful things(but I need to get practical within my already blown budget)...THANKS!!!! I actually am in process with it's resurrection, doing some mechanical now, should be into paint/body by next weekend...this will really help put the finishing touches on my ride...

Need help with auto body and paint
If you guys are located near the Seattle area, have you checked out Oliver the "Z Man" at Z Specialties?...if he doesn't do the paint/body himself, I'm sure he has some reliable contacts in your area. I've had very good contact/service from him over the years, his high output alternator swap for the early Zs is great: http://www.zspecialties.com/ :beard:

Throwing in the towel; how best to sell
Since you found one in such solid shape it'd be too bad to let 'er go but I do understand where you're at...it does become a matter of priorities esp with 8 (!!!) kids....I am now just getting the first decent paint/body work done on it, (what should have been done initially) after 19 years of ownership....I've been tempted many times over the years to dump it, but driving it around recently brings back a smile to my face...it's old school, lacks modern amenities but has classic styling and is still a pisser to drive after all these years...if it doesn't cost you much to store it, just pay the non-op registration and work on it when you can...were you ever able to drive it much? Given the good condition, I don't think it would take too much to get back it on the road...one day... (BTW there were many years when it sat untouched, but it has always started up after a good battery charge...the body shape always seduces me, mine's gonna clean up well, I'm looking forward to finally completing this project... ) Just took a look at your gallery, that looks to be original paint? Original steel wheels with hubcaps? Is the complete aircleaner with it? I can understand your initial excitement...if the rest of the interior dash is in good shape, you have a real gem there especially in your part of the country...

center cap
Give Kelly at Hub Cap Annie's a call...he might be able to trace down a set for you...the thing about the Riken caps is the center diameter of the face where you would apply the "Z" emblem is pretty large, more so than the emblem...that bullet cap with the "Z" emblem on it's face could be pretty nice with your rims... :beard:

240Z Deck Lid Spoiler
I got that from the HP Books "How to modify Datsun engines & chassis - 510, 610, 240Z" by Bill Fischer & Bob Waar 1973 ISBN #0-912656-09-3 . I think it's out of print but you might scour the used bookstores in your area, that's how I found mine...it's full of good common sense, practical concepts for applications to the street or racing, etc. Very helpful with plotting Z upgrades... :beard:

center cap
http://www.autoenhance.com/K254.html This will fit in the center hole on your Rikens, you could use the "Z" emblems from MSA to complete the look... http://www.hubcaps.org/z.html Check the two in the lower lh corner, but you'd have to confirm how they actually fit in the wheel :beard:

240Z Deck Lid Spoiler
I'm starting my long deferred refurb and came across this in a book: <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v251/dbxfx/Z-aero-sm.jpg"> Can't say about 1 vs 3 pc designs but if the overall effect is reached then I think you're good... :beard:
