  1. A '73 240, differential mount -- are any of the local dealers likely to have something like this? Especially in the East Bay? Or should I just order online from Courtesy or similar? Thanks for any help, Steve
  2. I recently saw a '72 with the dash/windshield VIN missing completely. The door-jamb plate was still in place and matched tags in the engine compartment. There was a stamped-in-metal "Replacement VIN" plate made by the State of California riveted to the door jamb, same number as the other. It still seemed sort of weird to me and I thought it might make others uncomfortable if I later wanted to sell. But maybe it was only that a replacement dash had been put in -- the car had all kinds of replacement stuff in it, including pre-'72 seats. Steve.
  3. Some spring compressors much more prone to slip than others. The ones where the concave piece that grabs the spring is wider (say, an inch) are less likely to slip. The ones where it's more like a simple hook are the ones that skid sideways where you don't want them. I can't remember -- on some cars, with the front strut, once it's loose from the fender, you can mash down with your foot, on the control arm, and the strut will clear the fender without being disconnected from the control arm. Others, it won't. Will it do this on a 240? Steve
  4. This guy is offering one for $30 or offer, don't know if he'll ship. Also he doesn't state which year 240. Still. http://www.craigslist.org/nby/pts/111320921.html
  5. Put new seat on old tracks? Thx, Steve
  6. Looking at some seats out of a '77-78 280, to go into a 240 from 1971. Fits OK? Many thanks, Steve
  7. Wow, thanks to you both. I've seen some eBay photos showing weights of 2700-2800 lbs for 1973 models, on the door plate. Anybody have a book that lists something else? I wouldn't have thought the spread would be this much. My Clymer's book is long gone, unfortunately. Thanks again, Steve
  8. Hi, First post here. Owned two in the past -- a 1972 240 during the '70s, and a 1976 280 during the '80s. Loved both. Loved 240 more but harder to live with. Would like to get back in. Request: can somebody with a 1972 or 1971 tell me the weight spec displayed on plate on the door jam? Trying to get an exact fix on the weight spread vs. a 1973 or a 260. I know it's come up before, but to avoid apples-and-oranges, it'd be nice to have that official spec. Many thanks. This forum looks terrific. Steve in Oakland.
