    Welcome aboard!
  2. Congrats on the find! Now if you would be so kind as to use the photo upload feature instead of posting photobucket links, that would be great so that 1) I can see them at work and more importantly, 2) they are preserved with the thread for eternity, rather than disappearing when you reoganize your photobucket albums BTW, Baby crap is not the lime green color, but the safari gold color found on Z's! What color is the spare tire well? Maybe that might help determine what the original color was?

Looks terrific Mike! I really like the 903 Blue on a Z
  4. I'm sure our wheel expert, Arne, can say for sure, but since the standard offset for a wheel to fit the Z is 0, and these and have a very large offset (not to mention being 16"x9" which might be tough even with a 0 offset!), my guess is not even close. If you really want to try to stuff these wheels on your Z, the folks over at HybridZ may have some tips on how to do it
  5. IIRC, this car (or one very much like it) was sold on eBay around Sept/Oct 2005 (for around $20K IIRC). I remember looking hard at it around that time. When i get home I'll try to remember to see if I still have the photos from the eBay ad to see if it is the same car.

Here you go (steel colored ones are 70-72, black ones are 73):
  7. I'm in for a set of stock springs if a group buy ever comes around again (or before if anyone has a set they want to sell!)

Also note that the '73 240Z and the 260Z have different bumper bracket mounts than the '72 and earlier bumpers, as well as a slightly different curved shape to work with the rubber packing pieces that go between the bumper and the fenders on each side. The bumper brackets are also larger, have a completely different mounting for the bumper, and stick out farther to accomodate the rubber packing and spacer piece. For example, I cannot just take my very nice '73 240Z bumper, and put it on some earlier bumper brackets to bring it in closer and have it look like a '72 or earlier 240Z - unfortunately they are "apples and oranges". (the overriders are also in different spots (closer together) on the '73 versus the 72 and earlier). I am in the process of coverting my car to the earlier '72 bumper look right now. Got all the parts, except I need some '72 overriders as the '73 overriders are bigger and the hood will hit them if I put them on the earlier bumper (not to mention I'd have to cut the rubber strip on the bumper)

Well like some other ebay sellers, "raddat" does not list his shipping charges, if there is something I am interested in, I will contact the seller via ebay and ask what the shipping charges are to my zip code. I have not had an issue getting an answer. Whether or not I thought the shipping charges quoted were reasonable remains another matter, but I simply factor them into any bid I make. I would hope everyone would do this as well, but based on some of the bids I see for items (not necessarily 240Z items), it appears that many people do not do this!

if you want to pay the "big bucks", this guy appears to have a new OEM 70-72 front bumper: http://www.new-datsun-parts.com/datsun-240Z-parts-exterior1.html

Welcome, looks like a great find! I would suggest driving her around for a bit before tearing into a rebuild. That way when you are looking at a large pile of parts, or the car is still in paint jail, you'll have the memory of how great the ride is to motivate you to keep going! You also get the benefit of a "shakedown period" to identify if there is anything else that needs to be tackled when you start the refresh.

I managed to snag a new NOS '72 front bumper from my Nissan dealership parts guy a few weeks ago (just need overriders now!). If you keep checking every so often, sometimes a part you are looking for will "pop up" on the available parts listing if you get lucky

I agree that you should have it fixed and painted. You should be able to find a shop that can match the paint. Just be prepared to pay for it. The issue is probably more of them not wanting to take a small job like yours compared to a collision job that pays much more than their ability to actually match the paint. I just did the same to my car a couple of months ago. I had a couple of small bubbles in the passenger side dogleg, and wanted to put different mirrors on the doors. My front valence was bent up from hitting the spook on a curb, so that needed straightening and repainting as well. So I finally found a good shop that would match the paint, and had the work done. Glad I did it and the match is as near perfect as it can be. No one has been able to identify which panels were repainted and which were not. I told the shop manager that I was very anal, and the paint had to match perfectly. I told him that I would not accept the car until it matched if he took the job. The cost was not cheap, but I would rather pay for quality than look at mis-matched paint for the next several years. In today's economic environment, you should be able to find a shop that can do the job and will be glad for the work. Good luck!

I got around to measuring the MGB mirrors, and the measurements are as follows: -- The base is 3.5" long, and 1.5" wide. -- Holes are 1 3/8" apart at the centers. Hope this helps you determine if you need to drill new holes, and/or if the base will cover whatever existing holes you may have!

Jack, My car did not have the original holes, but my guess is you may need to drill at least one new hole. I'll measure the distance between them later and post it, so you can tell for sure. As long as the base covers the old holes, should be no worries. I drilled two new holes as the PO had put these plastic mirrors at the very front of the door. Here are photos of the old mirrors and the new holes drilled out (the rear set), and the old holes for the black plastic mirrors (front set) when I had the doors repainted:

As an alternative, you could use some late MGB mirrors. I just put them on my Z when I had some paintwork done and got rid of the stupid, small black plastic useless mirrors the PO had put on. The MGB mirrors are available from Moss or Victoria British (aka Black Dragon) and are for a '77 ~ '80 MGB, and cost about $35 each new. You can grab some from a pick-and-pull for a couple bucks each. Here are a few photos I snapped in the driveway this afternoon.
  17. Unfortunately the lift would not fit in Santa's sleigh (or the Z), so you're just going to have to come down and get it :classic:
  18. Good to see progress Randy! We'll have to get together when it is done so I can check it out Where is that shop, looks like quite a few nice cars in there... Cheers, Doug
  19. Maybe a stupid question, but why couldn't you just cut slots into the new hatch and mount the vents? You could cut and bend the lips, drill the holes for the vent covers and you would be very close to the original hatch. I don't think eliminating them will have much effect on fumes coming into the car, as they will find there way in if there are any gaps regardless.

Ron rebuilt the clock for my Z, and it works perfectly now. Great guy, loves Z's and highly recommended!

Welcome! Good luck with the weather, hope you get your Z home soon. Don't forget to post some pics of your new Z here.

If you click on the auction, then on the "1" feedback the seller just got from the person who bought the Z, you can get to the real ID of the buyer. You can them click on the buyers ID, and it will bring up their profile. You can then use the "Contact member" link on the left side to send them an email. I don't know if eBay will care if the car is legit or not - but it might be worth contacting them?
