260Z, my contacts to Scandinavia are quite good as I work in the paper industry and many of our mills are owned by scandinavian companies, esp. finnish. Kipis ! Yes, both 240Zs belong to me, unfortunately one had a bad crash last year. Restoring that will be my next job. The 280ZX is my wife's car and the 300ZX is my long distance vehicle. For about 25 years I 'm with Datsun/Nissan sports cars. By the way, I was the first who drove in Norway with a little Honda S 800 Coupe at a rallye around Vos and than at the horse race track in Bergen about 30 years ago. Good old days ! Rolf

International poll re-do
260Z, you belong to Europe and you voted right. I think instead of "Europe"in the poll should be "Central Europe". I sometimes have problems with Norway because the population there voted against the EU, at least as long as they make money with oil and gas. Let's see what they think when these ressources are gone. I have to work with some of them and I always nickname them our "northwest asean observers". Rolf

Great ! Cant you or someone else of us develop something like an interactive box of bricks where we can design our dream car in colour, with different front and rear aerodynamic sets, different rims and so on? Would be nice to compare the results. Rolf

Poll on Internationals
Saint, don't mind. You are welcome here and I like Kiwis. Let's see how the Americans will beat the rest of our Z world. 98% to 2% in case all members answer ? Good idea to start the poll. but wouldn't Mike have the correct and final figures by country anywhere in his database, at least for the members ? Rolf

Foaming oil?
Zvoiture, 90 mph for an hour is nothing for a Z engine in good condition. Here in Germany we still don't have a speed limit on the Autobahn. At day times all german Autobahns are to crowded to drive high sppeds for a longer while, but at night there are some routes where you can go faster. 110mph is a cruising speed for cars like ours. You can also go up to your limits. That's where the Z32 Twin Turbos get their Turbo problems, not the Z31 Turbo, not the 280ZX Turbo and not na Zs. I had a similar problem as you on my Z31 Turbo 2 times and it always was the gauge. I also heared that todays light syntetic oils are good for Turbos and todays engines whereas the former engines have been built with less fit. That's why I use in my 240 Castrol Classic. Did you check your compression rates ? I think it is the gauge that fools so many of us. Rolf

Moustache bar
Thanks for both replies. Unfortunately it seems that I have a bigger problem than expected. Does anybody know more details /measures on those outer sleeves? Rolf

Moustache bar
Hi all, I wanted to change my moustache bar bushings to MSA's Urethane ones. I took the bar to a shop secialised on drivetrains to push the old bushings out, what they did. Back home I put the new bushings in but the didn' fit snug. Is there also an outer sleeve between the bushing and the moustache bar's "open eye" ? If yes, the shop pressed it out, too and I need a new pair. Has anyone a pair or does any one know a source or has anyone of you the exact measures of that sleeve and it's kind of metal so that I can try to find a similar tube/pipe so that iI can ask someone here to fabricate it for me. Thanks Rolf

Thank you madsoul Rolf

fuel pressure
I think about replacing the mechanical fuel pump by an electric one. So I am also interested to know what pressure is needed for the SU carbs in a '72 240 Z Rolf

Z cars on ebay are becoming a joke
There were some different works options in different countries. All Zs delivered by Datsun Germany had soft front and rear spoilers. I also know somebody who has a textil sunroof in his 260Z 2+2. He is the original owner and he said that option was on the official list. I also heard that the headlight covers were standard in some countries. Maybe Alan T. knows a lot more about that. Rolf

engine paint color 73 240Z ?
The mix is at www.zhome.com. Look at Z Technical Library, Index of technical Articles, Body, Correct engine paint mix. Take care to get colours that are heat proof. Rolf

air dam / grill questions ?
I made the grill myself using the original (that had been destroyed in an accident) as basic model. The pic shows the raw version. Ii's now painted gun metal, like the original rear. Rolf

Transistorised Ignition
2manyZ, in 1969 I added an early transistorised ignition to the Honda S 800 Coupe I had in those days. It looked similar and had a switch to change back to the original untransistorised ignition. There was nothing changed inside the distributor. It was just to give more power to the spark, as I remember. The box had rips for cooling and it was installed in a fresh air flow. I can't imagine to have it in a closed box at the rear or was it laid down there unpluged and forgotten ? In the other case I would bet it is an alarm. Rolf

kph in a 240Z?
Guus, my 240z has an mph speedo. I also got a 26oZ speedo in km/h. Their sizes ares identical, but not the way they are fixed to the dash and also the plugs/wirering is different. I would not try to change the speedo exept taking out the dash for easy access. What I did: At first I drove the car as exactly as possible for exactly 1 km at speedo showing 2o mph,30 mph, 50 mph and stopped the seconds I needed. Then I calculated the km/h at these figures. My speedo seems to be quite exact. In average I had to multiply the mph figure by 1,65 to get the "calibrated" km/h figure. I took a transparent adhesive foil and cut it to the silhouette of the speedo's glas. On that foil I marked little dots there where the speedo showed every 10 mph when I look at it normally sitting in my driver's seat. I took out the foil and pressed letra-set figures on it, showing the matching km/h. 0 = 0, 20mph = 33 km/h, 30mph = 50 km/h, 60mph = 100 km/h, 80 mph = 130 kmh, 110 mph = 180 km/h. 140 mph = 230 km/h. I finally fixed the foil on the glas. It works sufficient. I never had a problem with radar or laser guns because of wrong reading. The police normally accepts little tolerances and nearly every speedo has tolerances. Rolf
