Got TONS of extra parts from a sale and need help desciding carb
DGV's are OK carbs, but they have a reputation for being unfriendly to tune beyond bone stock, and not always the best for economy, either. I can't think of a single case where I'd prefer DGVs over a pair of roundtop SUs.

Mostly black Series 1 240Z sitting under a carport on Coburg Rd. (Been sitting unmoved for AT LEAST 15 years...)

Clutch goes to floor, not engaging.
I'm with Bruce - I've never had long-term success rebuilding clutch hydraulics. By the time they fail, the cylinder bores are generally trash. I'd also recommend not trying to do only a piece at a time. Experience has also shown me that putting a nice, new master in with an old slave will generally lead to failure of the slave in short order. I'd recommend getting a new master, new slave, and a new pressure hose all at once. Do it once and be done with it.

SU Oil Consumption
Also while we're in here - ATF is too light weight, allows the piston to move too quickly. The factory called for straight 20 wt. oil, easily found at most motorcycle shops as fork/shock oil. ATF is closer to 5 wt.

SU Oil Consumption
I can't recall ever having to add to mine over 5 years unless I had them apart and dumped the old out.

Amazing picture...
Interesting. The 240Z isn't finished. No interior door panel, or rear cargo carpet/vinyl. Nice looking car, though.
- What makes a Z a Z? What modifacations go too far to be called a Z?

What makes a Z a Z? What modifacations go too far to be called a Z?
Agreed on all points, even the part about owners doing what they like. But I wasn't talking about value, or correctness, or collectibility. I was talking about personality and character. A V8 Z is a very different car than a stock or resto-mod. Better in some ways? Yes. But the personality is different. Not essentially the same car. To me, that personality is important. Less so to others.

What makes a Z a Z? What modifacations go too far to be called a Z?
I like the way the title is phrased, Will. "What mods make you QUESTION whether a car is still a Z?" (Emphasis mine.) Because the answer to that question will vary depending on the person. To me, it boils down to two things - does it still look like a Z? And does it still have a Nissan L-series inline six in it? When the 240Z was introduced in the US in 1969, those were the two defining points of the Z - the styling, and the "big" (for its day) six cylinder when everything else at that price point had four-bangers. I've got no problem with engine swaps, V8 or otherwise. But to me, a V8 Z-car is just another hot rod. You can stuff big power into any car, but that doesn't always retain the character that the car was designed with.

What's in YOUR garage?
I've always loved the look of the 70-73 RS. Nice!

Do Speed Bleeders work?
I have them on my motorcycle. Yes they work, but they seem a touch fragile and fussy. They depend on thread sealant to keep things sealed while the bleeder is open. You definitely don't want to open them very much during the bleeding process, maybe a quarter turn or so. If you bleed your brakes frequently, and find it inconvenient to grab a helper, they will do the job.

struts
The original rationale for a bit of oil in the tube was to aid heat transfer so that the insert would run cooler. Based on that, if KYB says they don't need the oil, so be it. No oil should be fine. But other than the mess to deal with next time, I don't see the harm in adding oil either.

Time Capsule 1976 Car
If the Yugos are calling, I'm deaf to them.

Time Capsule 1976 Car
I suppose you could say that about some of my other prior obsessions as well. There are probably old MGBs somewhere calling to me. And vintage BMWs, Fiat/Abarth microcars, vintage Kawi KZs, 1st-gen Sciroccos....

Time Capsule 1976 Car
Not original tires - as I recall the '76 280Z's virtually all came with Bridgestone RD-208 "Super Fillers". The tires on that car have a very different tread pattern.

Pay it forward!!!
All except the L20-B 2.0 4 cylinder. It had a taller block, so the cover was different.

Stock Speakers - Just One Of Them?
Correct, no speakers there in any 240Z.
-
Should I sell it
Trust me, if you want a really nice 240Z, you'll be far, far ahead to find and buy one that is already nice. BTDT. You'll spend more to make a so-so car nice than it is worth on today's market. Better to start with a car that is solid, and almost where you want it to be.
-
Stock Speakers - Just One Of Them?
The perforations near the quarter windows are for the vents under the Z emblems, not speakers. No speakers were ever offered there.

Rate the available mechanical fuel pumps
My point is that you shouldn't trust the pictures on the web pages, since they are all re-boxes the actual product inside the box could change at any time. If I were in the market now I'd want to buy from someone who offered a no-questions return policy, so that I could return it if it turned out to not be the right unit.

Newest addition to the garage.
I can't rule it out. Never say never....
