The age old question-
Dash good? Get on a hoist and check floors, framerails and battery tray carefully. Check both doglegs thoroughly for rust (I'm assuming the rust you've described is on a dogleg). The BIG challenge is Z's in the northeast rarely have only a little rust. Once it starts...look out. If everything else checks out solid from a rust standpoint, probably about $3 - $5k. Possibly more if everything else is amazing (great drivetrain, solid carbs, etc.). If there is rust anywhere else...$1 - $2k. Read the board and beware of rust...if it has set in, you're better to buy a rust free car in California and have it shipped (I had one shipped from San Diego to Champlain for $800). Good luck with your entry into the Z world. BTW...there are a couple of really, really nice ones for sale by a couple of our club members in Montreal (one fully resto'd for $13.5K). Let me know and I can point you in the right direction.

leaded gas question
My '71 had a pretty good ping until I moved up to the high grade stuff. Test it out and you'll find the right level. Too much octane is not productive unless it is truly necessary.

I'm not suggesting a 6X reduction is realistic, just pointing out the disparity. As for the cost of going green. The point you make would have been the same about car ownership 100 years ago. The question is at what point the true cost of environmental impact will be included in costs of goods. Carbon credits / taxes are coming in one form or another and this will spur innovation in greener technologies and reduce their price dramatically (through volume growth and technological advancement). Green for the masses...

First a disclaimer. I have a Tahoe, a Sequoia and 3 Z cars. Not exaclty a high perch to proselytize from... Can't believe I'm going to take a run at Carl but here goes. I agree with the first sentence. Total reduction must be accomplished on a global scale. After that you might want to pull you head out of butt try seeing the world from a perspective other than one in the lower 48... First some data on the top 20 oil consuming countries in the world (from the CIA World Factbook)... Country / % of Global Oil Consumption / Per Capita Index to US US / 25.9% / 100.0% China / 8.6% / 7.6% Japan / 6.7% / 61.4% Russia / 3.6% / 30.3% Germany / 3.3% / 46.4% India / 3.0% /3.1% Canada /2.9% /100.7% South Korea / 2.7% /63.2% Brazil / 2.6% /16.0% Mexico / 2.6% / 27.6% Saudi Arabia / 2.5% / 103.7% France / 2.5% / 45.6% United Kingdom / 2.3% / 43.6% Italy / 2.2% / 43.5% Iran / 2.0% / 36.1% Spain / 2.0% / 57.7% Indonesia / 1.4% / 6.8% Netherlands / 1.3% / 88.7% Thailand / 1.2% / 20.7% Australia / 1.1% / 64.0% What this means is the average Chinese citizen consumes 7.6% of the amount of oil the average US citizen does. The average Indian 3.1%. So the average Indian would have to increase his personal consumption by a factor of 30X to achieve your level of thirst (or mine for that matter). To move to average worldwide levels, US per capita consumption would need to decrease by 82.4%. Where should the balance be in that equation? The US/North America deserves plenty of credit for the economic growth it has achieved over the last century. Its economic strength (per capita GDP) is the envy of the developed world (probably even the Kiwis...). That economic growth has been fueled by oil. Simple and true. When countries seek to enhance the standard of living for their people, the US is the benchmark by which this desire is measured. Based on current global technology, the most direct way to achieve that economic expansion is growth based fossil fuel consumption. While this is clearly not desireable from an environmental standpoint, it is hard to argue the desire of these nations seeking to ascend to better quality of life (particularly when it is constantly broadcasted on TV around the world). If the American principle / dream of being able to work hard and achieve better economic circumstances applies within the borders of the USA, how does it not apply on a global scale? As far as the future of economic growth, it will be driven by innovation in cost effective energy efficient technologies. The current low price of fuel in North America lowers the need to innovate and actually differentially promotes technological advances in countries where fuel / transports prices are higher. And if you'd done enough to reduce pollution, you wouldn't be consuming 6X the global average. Once again, I believe global reduction is necessary and critical. But to demonize economies that seek to achieve better things for their populations is the way to go. Go buy a hybrid (I'm getting one in December when the Sequoia disappears; unfortunately the Tahoe stays for towing horses).

Oof...tough to tell on the one. A couple of scary things... a) Screwed on hatch vents? Rough frame rail patch... c) Reasonably fresh coat of splash white hiding.... d) Very partial floors shots (no shots, never good)... The good: a) Matching engine # Claims floor work is done (how well?) c) Seems to giving a fair assessment of the vehicles weakness (not overly candy-coated anyway...) $9,950...incredibly high if it wasn't for the VIN #...as such, still a little on the high side I believe...

NISSAN ZX-T / LOLA T810 GTP RACE CAR (ebay other makes)
"On April 25, 2002, he was gravely injured in a violent crash while testing a powerful 1988 Nissan GTP ZX-Turbo for the Walter Mitty Challenge for historic cars at Road Atlanta. His injuries included a broken neck, left leg, left shoulder and right arm, along with third-degree burns over 15 percent of his body. He was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital after the accident. After briefly rallying, the 66 year old succumbed due to complications from his injuries on April 29, 2002." And he had a clue how to drive cars like this (2-time Sebring winner driving a Porsche 935 & 962)... I figure I might make about as far as turn 2 if I'm lucky...would be a fun turn 1 though...

Overhead at a car show last weekend
Oh man...what a bunch of hooie...(I'm clearly not sure how to spell that...) Ok, let's walk through this: Decision 1: Post-WWII, Post-Pearl Harbor, a Japanese manufacturer decides to launch under a pseudonym to avoid the direct connection with a then despised (too strong?) or at least distrusted nation. This may be debated but is clearly a defensible position and not a fundamental blunder. Decision 2: Fast forward 25/30 years. Acceptance of Japanese vehicles in America has rapidly progressed. Nissan makes the decision to establish the Nissan name as a global brand at the expense of brand equity built up around the Datsun name. A difficult decision and there is never an ideal time for such an implementation. That being said the progress that Nissan has made since the move is commendable. It is now a well-established brand that is recognized for providing a great performance for the price. The fact that kids these days don't recognize the Datsun brand (nor do some current Z drivers) speaks to the fact that the Nissan brand has clearly surpassed the memory of Datsun. I still drive Datsun's though....

L28T or L28 with added turbo
Hmm...no expert but from what I recall converting a stock L28 is an issue as stock has higher compression than a turbo and once you bolt on the turbo you get too much pressure. If I were to do it, I'd go L28T with some mods to control boost levels etc. Try hybridz. I'm sure this has been covered to death over there.
