toyota engine compatability
As a matter of fact..yes I do have some comments,1st-no more foolishness, 2nd-I still didn't say I didn't like something-lets drop it and move on........ Now about the ford 5.0.....I think it's a good choice,it is about the same weight[with aluminum heads it will be even lighter yet] and it will make your Z handle much better.[i've done a couple]which includes one of my older Zs that I used to own.I chose a 5.0 mostly due to the fact that it was free from a car I used to own[an 88 saleen #28]which was totaled be my ex-wife about 14 years ago.I just loved the sound of a properly built small block ford.[before Zs there was the mustangs] chevy small blocks are a lot cheaper to build though, almost 2 to 1 over ford.[2-350s for the price of one 302 or the like] I still have the conversion kit.[custom fab by -Johnny Z motorsports] JZM

New OEM Engine
Sorry about the 260 thing I miss read the post :stupid: your engine should bolt right in [exception-exhaust].as far as oil pressure goes.fill the oil filter before installing,if you remove the oil pump for any reason fill it too, after the engine is installed you can ground the coil wire to the engine block or other ground source and than crank the engine.if you have a manual oil pressure checker/gauge that works best to check the pressure.it's better than waiting for the stock electrical unit to respond.all your really trying to do is get oil to the main and rod bearings before you start the engine. Does your 76 have an N42 head? if so have it rebuilt and bolt it on your new engine.it's a much better choice.it's also something that you don't have to do right now. oh and the fuel injectors may be gummed a little you can operate them with out running the engine by simply giving them a power and ground zap a couple of times[with some fuel injection cleaner the fuel rail,it won't hurt them]it's just to remove any fuel varnish or you can just try to start the engine and let it run,it should clear itself out.you can also spend some more money and send the injectors out and have them gone through.or you can just use the injectors from the 76 and call it a day. good luck and have fun! New OEM Engine
I think you sould start by removing the spark plugs and putting a couple of drops of oil in the cylinders and than hand crank the engine,to help the rings free up.buy a valve cover gasket and remove the valve cover to see whats inside[how clean it is]You'll want to replace the front and rear crank seals due to age, drain any fluids from the engine any put new oil in.Do you have the ecu, harness, air flow meter and related ignition components? if not you might want to find them.the round port exhaust will work just fine[unless your after serious hp gain].a header will help you.your trans will of course bolt up.as far as clutch any year will work,as long as all the components are from the same kit.the radiator lower hose may need to be played with a bit or you can put the lower hose spout from your 260 engine on and not worry about it.air intake can be worked out by using an aftermarket unit.Throttle linkage can come from a 280Z. OR In short the long block alone will work.the only exception being that you will need to buy a header or modify your currant exhaust header pipe to fit. [not recommended] Don't forget to build up some oil pressure before you start the engine. JZM

toyota engine compatability
Now hold on just a minute,I believe I offered my help in this matter.than everbody started on about nissan this and toyota that,I'm for any engine that you might want to use,[with the exception of using the 70 Z as a doner, only because it's getting rare]and no I'm not taking things to seriously. note the slight humer here and there , sounds to me that people should reread this entire thread.and I never said I didn't like anything about this whole idea, thats why I'm still here.as far as stating my opinion about something I don't like I'm still trying to find what it is that you think I should follow my own advice on,[with the exception of not helping the original person who asked for help.] p.s. Z cars are what I do for a living,If anyone asked for my advice or help I would never turn them down. JZM

toyota engine compatability
I feel as though I'm walking through the red woods with a bunch of wizz happy dogs with higher testosterone levels than steroids, viagra and my fifteen year old son[combined]. Who cares what engine is being installed in the %$#&*@# car? It's not being installed in your car is it? You would think that most of you would have better things to do.like being on the same club and getting along.Everybody is entitled to have an opinion true, but when things start getting out of control maybe we should take a step back relax a bit and work though things together,if you don't like something state your opinion and leave things alone.unless you have something usefull to interject. toyota engine compatability
So I assume we have some machinists on board here?.not all toyota engine are the same, they all don't last as long as you might think.however some are better than others.whens the last time you saw a rod hanging out the side of an L-series?not often. all engine manufactures have there down sides.I'm not partial to any.I just know what works and what does not.and as far as reliability.I just removed the VG30DE from my own car it has 307896 miles on it and it still runs great![converting to a VG30DETT]And last week I removed a L-24 with 'I $^!# you not' 400k+miles on it.and it still ran fine.tore it down to see cross hatch in the cylinders.also removed a toyota 3VZE v6 with 300k+ on it. it really doesn't matter what engine you use as long as you take care of it..........it's all about what floats your boat. p.s. philUK is that a picture of of you install? thats sweet! toyota engine compatability
I have done a few.6MGE,7MGE and the 7MGET and also the 2JZ twin turbo. My pesonal favorite is the 7MGET conversion.however please keep in mind that you will be destroying a great car and the toyota six has a very weak lower end.our shop rebuilds these and you can also get them in jap crate form still.p/m me with Qs and I'll see if I can help.you know you can also buy a more powerful and reliable nissan engine. that will fit just fine. And if I can put a jag V12 in a 240Z engine compartment I think your choice of a toyota will fit just fine. Ever drive/own a 300ZX Turbo?
I think we should just move on.seems to be that some people are taking things abit to strongly. As someone once stated,'this site is dedicated to the older S30s' maybe it should just stay that way. completely. JZM

Ever drive/own a 300ZX Turbo?

Fan clutch
I see. I really don't want to say this word on this site but HONDA civic D15B engines run counter clockwise but do not req. fans due to being transverse mounted.I beleive some earlier small bock FORDS also ran counter clockwise too.I'm sure there are some others as well.but back to the revearse rotation fan clutch,I thought you had to run a serpintine belt system for those.I have not delt with serp systems that much. JZM
-
Fan clutch
Well I've never actually heard of a revearse rotating fan clutch for a Z.I was speaking in referance to a Z fan.Fan clutches are be made to run in one direction or the other depending on engine direction, however they might work going the opposite way?,I think.[never tried it],a torque converter is designed to run in one direction[the direction of the engine]can't say if they will work going thr opposite way.as far as the 250 chevy v6 I have no clue. JZM
-
Fan clutch
You should only use the standard rotating fan clutch it is made for the rotation of your engine the other is made to go the opposite direction.or you could go the electrical fan direction.I've used electrical fans on many Zs I have found that dual 10in electric fans work well. JZM

Dim headlights
People I've seen daves work first hand.even while he's still working on it.now I know some of you already have daves product, but for those of you that don't, wow the detail is better than todays auto makers standards.and seeing first hand how it effects the lighting and reduces the electrical draw is incredible. Now if I could just get dave to start working on the parking and tail lights!good news dave I have customers that would love to see how your product works.Ive also some audio work for you. Ever drive/own a 300ZX Turbo?
On the subject of VG30DET.the D in this stands for dual cam.the Z31s did not have VG30DET engines.hence VG30E or VG30ET,note no D in either. But as far as the Y and F series cars I would have no idea. and A Z is A Z not matter what year!Everybody is entitled to there own opinion. And this is mine. Please keep in mind I'm not tring to step on anyones toes. Ever drive/own a 300ZX Turbo?
On the topic of the Z31, wasn't there also a VG30DET powered model? Was that a jap only model like the RB20DET powered version? No.there was not.the VG30DET is a VG30DETT not one T but two TT, which only came in the Z32s and some infinitis...VG stands for V-Series blocks.I own a 90 Z32 and I will tell you it out handles most any car you pit against it.stock braking is not good.but you can upgrade.as with the 240Z they were not the best handling cars when they came out but with some mods here and there holy $^!#.my 90 is a non turbo at this time I'm coverting it to a tt.the tt is 8-900lbs heavier than an n/a.thats why I chose the n/a.I'm very surprized that some of you would knock a Z of any year!.As with any line there needs to be a continuation or that line WILL fade. I consider my self to be a very passionate Z enthusiast.I've devoted most of my time to educating myself on the Z line. JZM
