Removing Gas Tank
what i did was i put some of that stuff u put on rusty nuts. then i got teh dremel and cleaned up it. after that prep work it come off pretty easy. yea after that panel came off i could actually fit my hand in it. those clamps that have on the fuel lines suck. i guess thats old tech for u but i like the new ones where its just a solid metal clamp and u dont have to worry about the screw falling out.

Floor pan rust - need to replace or patch? 56k beware
dude get some por15 for that driver side. you could do some spot welding which would make it alot stronger. (iv heard great things about taht por15 so im going to try it out on a little spot to see how it works, im getting my shipment in sat.)im going to finish my floors this weekend. you can get some 18 guage sheet for taht spot welding or if u wanted to replace everything but i dont see a need. i also bought this rust converter stuff that changes rust into primer which is kinda cool. of course srub the hell out of spots before u put this on. your pans look 100% better than mine. I can honstly say that my passanger side is swiss cheese. but its ok im getting a kick in doing this stuff to my car. iv done all my work during the holidays and i got my car on december 11 so been working on my car non stop. But im hopeing by the end of next week my car will be cancer free.

Removing Gas Tank
let me get some pics. thats when i just took it out i have done some elbow work on so its pretty clean right now. im just working how to replace hoses. the tank came out pretty easy even though i friend ditched me in the process. over all it was not bad. i think the biggest pain was getting the hoses off but with a couple bad words :lick: and some yanking it came off. while cleaning it up i put duck tape over the hoses conectors so that dirt would not get in the tank. inside was clean im was happy about that. it was time to clean 30+ year crap off the tank. i tell u what not going cheap on them wire bruskes helps out alot and having all the right tools. anyway using the duck tape i dont call that redneck i call it cajun style . after i get it all nice and pretty ill get a pic up. srry for the bad quality its a camera phone nasty tank.bmp

Removing Gas Tank
ok i did a search and i just got people that already removed them. well i read the datsun automotive book not much help their. i got the bolts off which was a pain. i got that pentrating oil that i read about. and i can say wow that stuff works. the only problem is how u get the filler hose off (big tube that puts the gas in the tank when u fill up) {do u take off the bottom of the filler hose or unscrew from the top of the tube}and the hose on the far right side i think its called a vent hose(how do help get teh rubber slide off the metal). since im taking the tank down i notice that the a couple of the hoses need to be replaced so im on that(vent tube, return nozzle). its just um they are coming off that easy. some hoses are in good shape so i dont want to mess them up. any tips of how the heck u got these things off. any help would be greatly appricated. the hoses are not bad they are about 5 years old thats what the owner said but the tips of them are cracked. should i just replace the hole thing or get a thing to get the tubes longer?

a welding bill i got a pro doing it for free for me. Its good to know people in the south. and all those other places u were talking about is all solid. to bad i dont live in new orleans and last time i checked termits eat wood but i could be wrong :stupid:. any way just father time took a beating on floors and the batter tray. from the other z i have seen in louisiana sitting out this one has been taken care of. i look at this way all that rust is getting rid of weight so my et should be nice just playin im fixin it. you dont have to worry about me "jerry-riging" like we do in the south with duck tape and a hammer. im doing it the right way.

Need help on floors
srry try it now still new to this if i new how to just put pics on the post that would make life that much easier. i need to know what size..etc etc but before u say i picked a bad lemon out of the bunch of z. i kinda wanted to bring a z back to life and i think i will enjoy the car alot more if i understood and sweated, bleed for it. i guess u can say i will have alot of respect for the car. the bottom of the rockers are solid just the top where the melal plate was is any show of rust. as for as rust what u have seen and the battery tray is the only rust on the car. at least i have one good thing :classic:

I need help on my bumper
Hello i finally got a all day to work on my car and boy was it a job. Or better words still a job. I really dont care i am having a blast toying with the car. I have a 1974 260z. I took off the rear bumper and my question is how do u get those T members off.(the things that bolt on the bumper from the rear) Do they unscrew off or do i need to take the gas tank off and unbolt them off. I just need some help before i do something stupid :tapemouth . the only real problem i had today was some rusty strip screws i had to get out. They were on the center console in the far back. The 3 of them where a bi0tch to get off. I guess the owner strip the hell out of them and just forgot about them. nothing i had could get these things to turn. so i did the next best thing i drilled a little in them fit the screw driver and and twisted the hell out of them. Of course the help of a rubber hammer to push the driver down far enough so i would not strip it even more. After a hour and a half of work i found victory in getting 3 a$$h*&e scew out :stupid: . I am in debate right now to either patch the floor or just get some replacement floor pans :dead: . I can say that the floor pans are not in the best of shape but are ok. i knocked off all the the lose crap. i can put my weight on it and nothing happens. of course i have not got to the driver side yet but from the bottom of the car it looks like the passanger had the worse case of rust. Does anyone know what the black crap that put on the inside of the car. this stuff is stuck on the pans. i am just wondering if this was a cheap way of fixing some holes. my rocker panel has like a dime size hole in do u recomend taken it off or just weld a patch for it? But i do have to say the rear of the car looks so sexy with out the bumper. i have an early 260z so its the small bumper is what i was told. :cheeky:
