In San Francisco, there is currently a case of a junior officer (who happens to be the SON of a Captain on the force) being accused of beating "suspects", and in one case assaulting a citizen merely because the citizen refused to give the PUNK cop the Burrito he had just purchased. The SF Grand Jury has been trying to investigate, but has been stonewalled by the brotherhood in blue who fear retaliation from the captain if they cooperate with the Grand Jury. Another black eye for San Francisco and the majority of Officers who hate these actions as much as the rest of us. Carl PS Smokey, It wasn't hard to "guess" that you are an Officer. With a screen name of Smokey, and your AOL Handle of "Radar446", it's not like you were trying to keep it a Iraqi State Secret. You are , of course; welcome here!
  3. He must a batch of the Magazines, as I got a "2nd chance Offer" from him, through eBay to purchase the premier issue at the last bid price(non-winning) that I made. I took him up on it. If you want some of the mags, bid, but don't bid too high!
  4. Right, LOTUS CORTINA, with a Ford engine. My mistake.
  5. Talk to you later, I gotta get back to bed! Carl
  6. It's not analizing humor, it is COMMON SENSE! People die when they believe every stupid thing they read! "Operating Instructions: Stand in water, and Plug in Toaster" Your move next!
  7. I don't know about the rest, but Ford Cortina's did have a twin cam cylinder head (I believe designed by Cosworth) and were quite a neat little car. Our member Royce and his father still race two of these little demons in California these days.
  8. This is where the story falls flat on it's face. In the US, the Police have "Caller ID" on their phone systems and can tell EXACTLY (in an INSTANT) the phone number and location of ANY call coming in to them. They would KNOW IMMEDIATELY that the call was from a different location. Also, you can't be "at 1802 West 34th Street and that I was going to kill my gay lover as soon as I got home." unless "home" is somewhere else. Also, TV stations don't send a crew in response to every (any) call that comes in to them! I'm not criticizing kmack for posting this story, as it is a funny story; but come on guys, think about it. You're smarter than to beleive it as "true". It's just a funny story! PERIOD.

Caen: Actually the question asked by Sean was, "Where is the Bonnet release on LHD Z's?" And my answer stands as written. "It is mounted to the underside of the Dash, just inside the Driver-side (LEFT) door. Right next to the pull knob for the side fresh air vent." I'm sure your statement regarding RHD Z's is also correct.

It is mounted to the underside of the Dash, just inside the Driver-side (LEFT) door. Right next to the pull knob for the side fresh air vent. Where else would it be? (Innocent question) Carl

I stand corrected. Sorry for the misinformation. I guess I missed that on the site when I was checking it out. Carl

Hi David: Most (95%) of my experiences with Police have also been positive. I've been treated well by them, however I won't ever forget the 5% who have abused their power and acted as TAX COLLECTORS or subjected people to physical abuse for their own amusement. I've always looked at speeding tickets received for actually speeding, as the price to be paid for choosing to drive fast without being observant enough to see the officer before he sees you. I've only been caught badly once (in Arizona, of all places) by a cruiser hiding in a nest in center divide of I-40 Eastbound out of Flagstaff. Got me COLD, and I was Flying! My comments were only directed at the tax collectors in the cases stated and not ALL Police. If Smokey is a State Trooper (or other Officer) He has my respect and gratitude for doing a tough job that is vital to our communities. (unless he is one of the TAX COLLECTORS). Carl PS: For the Aussies, the "Barney comparison" refers to a charector on a TV show from the 1960's. The show was "The Andy Griffith Show", which had Andy as the Sheriff, and a bumbling Junior Police Officer named Barney Fife. Barney was such a bumbler and so incompetant that he was only allowed to have ONE bullet, and he had to keep it stored in his shirt pocket so he wouldn't hurt himself or other people. Barney Fifes picture appears on the http://www.newromesucks.com/ Home page. PPS: Regarding New Rome, OHIO, the Main Interstate Highway goes right through the town, so it is almost impossible to avoid going through New Rome. EDIT: I've been corrected, New Rome isn't on the Main Interstate, there are detours available.

As a Roadster, it does have a bit of the Miata look to it. And I agree, I still do not like the design. I've added my two cents.......... We've got a nickel, now! Anyone else have some change? Carl

Hi Alan: No, Pleasanton has nothing to do with The Monkee's or any of their songs. Pleasanton is just a "cow town" tha has turned suburban over the last 30 years, and is now a refuge for many people who lived in San Francisco and Oakland California before many of the businesses fled those Urban areas for the "greener pastures" (cheaper land values) of Suburbia. I believe that Britain has "SAFEWAY" grocery stores? The headquarters of their former parent company is now here in Pleasanton. Enjoy another Orion for me! Regards Carl
  16. I think it is an Urban Legend, better known as "creative" writing. Someone in my office passed around that story on paper well over a year ago. The names were different, but the story was exactly the same. I still have the copy that I saved. It IS amusing and a story that most of us wish we could have executed a time or two. But, I think it is more or less B.S. ; but funny B.S.

Nope! All I get is a CAPTION mentioning a 2004 350Z Cloth Top. It is under the Ferrari pictureand the rest of the page is an offer to subscribe to the Motorcities.com site. BLAH!

Hi Alan: Maybe they just figured that we were WIDER than others, and the handbrake would jab us in the thigh if placed on the left-side of the trans tunnel? Carl
  19. Check the Thread that you started yesterday on this subject. We've posted quite a bit on it! http://www.240z.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=28780#post28780
  20. No wonder Cable and Satelite TV(NON-Network) is so popular. I'm sure the children will LOVE being subjected to this replacement of their Mother by a stranger! This idea is just plain :stupid: Nuff said!
  21. Hi Royce: The Air Injection Galley (that air tube manifold with the threaded fittings mounted to the outside of the exhaust manifold) holds the actual (separate) Air Injection tubes in place (inside the Exhaust manifold). The tubes themselves stick out into the exhaust gas stream from there into the cylinder head. They are held in place by the fact that they are flared at their top end, and cannot "fall through" the diameter of the hole they rest in. The bottom end of the fitting that you see threaded into the Exhaust Manifold is tapered (male taper if you will) to match the taper(female taper) of the Air Injection tubes to make a gas tight seal. It is female threads in the cast manifold, and male threads on the fitting of the Air Injection Galley. The tubes themselves have no threads at all, only a flare at the top. Hope I haven't confused the issue with my description. Regarding your mention of the type of material for a plug being important, I agree; however since almost all of the BSP fittings I've seen are found in the Plumbing section of Hardware stores and are made of cast iron (just like the Exhaust Manifold) I don't believe it will be difficult to find fittings of appropriate material once the size is determined.

Smokey: If you'll re-read my post and it's heading, you will notice that I said THESE COPS; I did not disparage ALL COPS. Regarding the "originality" of my statement.....that TRUISM hasn't survived all of these years for no reason......it is TRUE of the WORST members of the police forces. And most of us have encountered EXAMPLES of this kind of police. THESE A$$HOLES (New Rome, OHIO; and NE Oklahoma ones refered to by carguyinok) deserve the jabs (and more!) and SHOULD be only allowed to have one bullet on their person, and it should be tucked into a shirt pocket! Just like Barney Fife. (there, are you happy now? ) They are NOT "Police" in the sense that most of us think of Police, they are merely TAX COLLECTORS. Why else would you need 11 members of the force for a town of 60 people, or 80+ cruisers for a town of 10,000 in OK? Think about it! On the odd chance that any of these "tax collectors" are members of this club, I still say SCREW EM! Carl (The un-PC one) Neuter the Tax Collectors! PS: With a user name like "Smokey" one could suspect that you are a State Trooper. My strong opinions on this are not directed at you (or any other police), unless you are one of these tax collecting fools! In which case you get what you deserve! Taxation under color of police authority is UNETHICAL, and should be ILLEGAL, not ENCOURAGED!
  24. Mick: From the Main Page (Home page) in upper right corner area called OPTIONS, select "User CP" (USER CONTROL PANEL), from the USER CONTROL PANEL page, select EDIT OPTIONS from the tabs near the top of the page. Scroll to bottom of the EDIT OPTIONS page. At lower right , click on the button that says "CHANGE AVATAR". You'll be taken to a page where you can select from many Avatars that are available or, at the bottom of that page you can choose to upload a custom Avatar created by yourself, on your own computer or import an Avatar from another website. "Custom Avatars" are limited to 150 by 150 pixels, or 500000 bytes. When you have chosen your Avatar (or uploaded one, or entered the URL of the site to import one from) click on the "SUBMIT MODIFICATIONS" button and you're done! So there you go! Have fun! So, you are an Engineer, huh? Tell me, What kind of TRAIN do you drive?! Carl

Mark: One of the replys to the thread about the 240Z for sale http://www.240z.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=28684#post28684 claims that the rear bumper on that car is a US spec center with Euro ends. Maybe you can tell by the photos whether mods were needed to do this. HTH, Carl
