Irl Vs Nascar
Indy cars look like rocket ships. Stock cars look like the ones you wrecked last week and still owe 12 payments on. When Indy cars bump into a wall, they explode. Stock cars slam against each other, bounce off a concrete fence, do a double-back flip and keep going. Indy fans are named Biff and Buffy. Stock car fans are named BUBBA and Bonnie Sue. Buffy wears heels. Bonnie Sue married one. Biff subscribes to the Wall Street Journal. BUBBA buys Guns and Ammo off the rack. Indy fans can name all the Presidents. Most stock car fans can name the President. Indy fans are fly fisherman. Stock car fans belong to B.A.S.S. Indy cars are assembled by a team of Swiss and German scientists in a top secret laboratory in Geneva. Stock cars are built in the back of Gomer's garage by men named Waddel, Junior, and Banjo. When an Indy car race is over, drivers shake hands. When a stock car race is over, drivers shake their fists. Most Indy car fans could not tell you who won last years race. Stock car fans can recite every race winner, and what he had for breakfast for the last 30 years. Indy car fans wont leave home without American Express. Stock car fans wont leave home without their drink coolers. The Indy 500 has yet to sell it's name to a corporate sponsor. A stock car promoter will name his race after a bathroom disinfectant, personal hygiene product or cat food if the price is right The average Indy car driver looks like James Bond. The average stock car driver looks like Indiana Jones. Indy car drivers act like they are doing you a favor if they glance your way. Stock car drivers will autograph your hat, tell you where the fish are biting and ask you over to their house for supper. Indy car fans know the party's over when the pate' runs out. Stock car fans know the party's over when the police arrive. Indy car drivers are named Mario. Stock car drivers are named Fireball. Indy car writers like to pop a cork, sit around and discuss the new Penske chassis. Stock car writers like to pop a top, sit around and discuss Brooke's chassis. Indy car writers sweat and toll over award winning stories. Stock car writers worry about explaining their expense accounts when they get back home.

Info About 1971 240Z
NO! A 280Z is the model of Z car that was sold (in the USA) from 1975 through 1978. They have a heavier body, larger bumpers, more complex electrics, larger engine and fuel injection. 280Z's are still 2 seaters, although a 280Z 2+2 (4 seater) model was also sold in these same years. FWIW, regarding reliability...........it all depends on how well the specific car has been cared for in it's lifetime of close to 30 years. A well maintained Z could be very inexpensive to continue to maintain; however a neglected Z can be extremely costly to maintain. Get one in the best possible condition that you can afford.

240Z Nissan restored on e-bay
Yeah, but they weren't getting any bids of $25K even if there was a higher reserve price. Time will tell, but IMHO it's gonna a deep pockets and a shallow brain pan to sell at this price.

Caps on side of l24
Oh $hit! If you can't find them locally, I think I have a set left over from my engine project that I could sell cheap. Let me know if you need them. Might take a few days to locate in my storage.

Caps on side of l24
I would think so. If not, your local Nissan dealer should. (or MSA) You want to ask for Freeze plugs, or Welch plugs. same thing

Zcar trouble today
Summer is probably better for me also. No change in my car lately. Still having issues with getting newly rebuilt engine to run strong through full RPM range. Need to find someone locally who really knows SU's to guide me through confirming that the carbs are operating corretly. Due to job loss, I need to do this very cheaply and can't pay a shop to do it. Very frustrating. Haven't driven the car in a long time.

Zcar trouble today
IF/When you have time and tools to do this, let me know. Perhaps I can find time to lend a hand.

Caps on side of l24
Use a Screwdriver and a hammer. Drive screwdriver through it, and pry it out. When installing new one, you use a large socket or piece of pipe that just barely fits into the depression of the new plug and CAREFULLY tap it evenly into the block until the lip is just flush with the outer surface of the block. BTW, if one is bad, examne ALL of them to verify condition. They have all been installed the same length of time, and have been subjected to the same corrosive environment. They are on BOTH SIDES OF THE BLOCK. As for the "piece" missing from the old plug.................drain and flush the coolant system thoroughly.

Zcar trouble today
If this is true, he (or you) should replace the filter. I can assure you that he did not knock all of the rust and crap that was in the filter out of that filter. Buy a Fram G3359 fuel filter at your neighborhood Kragen and replace it. Costs next to nothing to do this, and eliminates any question as to whether the filter is plugged. THEN, cut the old filter in half and see for yourself what is inside. If there is rust in the filter, something (tank, metal lines, or whatever) is still producing rust. Was the tank sealed (internally coated) with a material to prevent water from coming into contact with the interior of the tank? You may want to inspect the tank to check it's current condition. The metal lines could be corroding also. no way to tell without examining.

Zcar trouble today
Victoria British offers one for $44.95 in the new catalog MSA's website offers one for $49.95 (listed as high quality, aftermarket unit. (They'll usually give 10% discount to us) Chloe has OEM ones listed for $92.93 Keep in mind that SOME of the stuff on eBay has been sitting on shelves for a LOOOONG time. I bought a NOS fuel pump on eBay (different seller) and it did not work at all.

Flip-type safety switches & paddle switches
MS25224 Switchguards That's what I'm talking about. I still have a few that I "acquired" while in the US Naval Air. At almost $10 a pop, I wish I had "acquired" the whole box of 100 that I ordered for our squadron!
-
Flip-type safety switches & paddle switches
These switches are called "Toggle" Switches. The covers you are referring to are separate pieces that are mounted to the panel WITH the switch. Switch goes thought panel, base plate of the cover is sandwiched between the panel and the nut that secures the switch. Available through race shops, aircraft equipment suppliers, etc. You might ask Chino240Z where he got the ones he installed on his trick switch panel.

Expensive wheel caps
Mike: I don't know of a place to get good quality center caps, but I sure wish I could get the bidders on this auction to bid on stuff I have to sell! Way overbid on these caps, IMHO

2 Fuel Pumps on a '73?
In CA many of the 73 240Z's were fitted with the electric fuel pump/fuel line blankets by the dealers. This is a fairly common thing to find on 73 Z's in CA (also found in other area's of the US as well, but I don't know how common)

remove/replace oil pump
You've got it, Hayden!
-
remove/replace oil pump
It is important that the engine be rotated to TDC before removal of either component,AND that he "tang" below the distutor be oriented EXACTLY the same when you re-install. Again, read the manual for clarification as to why and how.
-
remove/replace oil pump
You do not have to remove the distributor in order to remove the oile pump. HOWEVER, in order to re-install the oil pump properly, you will need to have the distributor removed in order to align the drive shaft that operates both the oil pump AND the distrubutor properly. Read a bit further in the manual and you'll understand why this is necessary. There is no reason to be concerned about removing the distributor as it is mounted to the timing cover by only two 10mm hex bolts. Quite simple.

Shock Boots
I would. KYB sells boots that have the bumpstop built in. Probably other manufacturers also sell similar.

Shifter with Cables
TomoHawk: Are you talking about finding a cable from some other make of car to be modified to be used in order to shift a 280Z manual transmission?
