  1. The link below is to an article on how to chage from stock 240Z Alt to the internally regulated type. It explains how to alter the wiring. See 4A and 4B near the bottom of the article for specifics. Internal Regulated Alt Conversion I've also attached a picture of how one person achieved the wiring changes and diode install. It could look somewhat different on your car. Everyone has their own way of doing things.
  2. Did you install just the L28, or did you also change to the internally regulated alternator? If you have an internally regulated alternator, you need to do some rewiring at the old external regualtor, and install a diode to prevent the engine keeps running issue.
  3. It does not mean anything like that. What it means is that the product was produced by a private company without a copyright realease from Nissan. What it does mean is that the product is not "authorized" by Nissan. The one my friend owns is complete and a true copy of the 1973 FSM.
  4. From our viewpoint that is a good idea, but from someone entering into a marketing/sales agreement, it would dilute the sales "each" retailer can expect to make in an already small marketplace. Sales = Money. Maybe Courtesy would only distribute it if they were granted exclusive sales rights, just guessing, but it's certainly been done that way before. (Retired)

  6. Might be fine for a product with a huge potential market, but in a niche marketplace (like individual year FSM's for 25+ year old cars) IMO that business model would be a huge and unwise risk. Z Car Creations (IdealZ, whatever) is a small business, IMO They cannot afford to do that.
  7. The FSM CD's are not produced by Nissan, just like the parts CD sold by our club is not produced by Nissan (Mike does have a copyright release from them). Probably because the marketers (and I believe they are also the "creators" of the product) do not see a need to, or for some other reason have not made arrangements to sell it elsewhere. It is available through their own company and from Courtesy. YES, it is a handy item to own. If one does not have a hard copy of the FSM it is even more valuable. As for pricing, the USA is a capitalist, free-market country. Businessmen (at least the ones who want to be successful) charge what the market will bear for their products. When the market is small, costs must be recovered from a limited amount of sales. Once they start selling huge volumes of the product, the price will drop. Welcome to Economics 101

  9. The service, prices and attitudes of the people I've delt with at Courtesy have indeed gone down hile in at least the past two years. Five years ago when I started buying parts, they would give a 25% discount, go out of their way to find what you needed and seemed to care if you were satisfied with your parts buying experience. Lately, the discount has gotten lower (now seems to be gone), they don't "search" for parts, (they order it, if it comes fine, if not fine), and many times they don't even thank you for calling and placing an order. Thank goodness Chloe at MIDWEST Z has come on the scene. She puts them to shame, even when they were "on their game" 5 years ago.
  10. You could have more than one issue going on here. Is the 6 months old starter a Kragen one? (FYI, They suck too) For some reason the bendix drive is not extending the gear to engage the flywheel. Low voltag could be it, bad solenoid could also be it. Dizzy isn't causing this particular problem.

    It doesn't work very well for many of us. Tends to kick you out and won't let you back in. It still thinks you are already in, and won't allow you to be in there twice. For some it works, and for some it doesn't.
  12. Great looking paint, Dave! I'm no electrician either, but if they worked before you pulled them, then likely you pinched a wire, or caused a short in some other way when re-installing. Jump back under there and I'll bet you find something obvious. Good Luck

  14. I don't know if they do in their "books", but KBB does not give valuations for cars as old as 240Z's on their website. They only list 300ZX in the "Z" series, and they go back as far as 1983. Someone may have been blowing smoke at you

  16. Who told you that? I don't think that is correct. The company was originally called Ideal - Z and was a partnership between two people who (I think) resided in GA. At least one of them was/is a memmber of our Mail list. I can't remember his name off hand (maybe Dave?), as I don't pay much attention to the mail list anymore. The partnership disolved and one of them carried on with the new name. Anyway, you got nothing to lose except 5 minutes by sending an email via the "contact us" link on their web site.

  18. Well, these guys, Z CAR CREATIONS are the ones who supply them to Courtesy Nissan. You might want to contact them and see if they will sell direct to you. Might also tell them about Courtesy not offering a club discount. Thwy won't be able to change that, but it may induce them to sell to you.

    OK Mark, That makes sense to me. But unless my car becaomes a AutoX/Track car only. I ain't going back to Aluminum/Delrin. Our roads suck, and replacing dental fillings is too costly.:stupid: I'll stick with the P/U, but inspect them occasionally. iGood thng I have two spare sets of T/C rods
  20. For some people it would not be a matter of "needing", but rather of "wanting" to work on the engine. Why? MORE POWER!? Some folks are not satisfied with the same power as every other vehicle of the same make and model. They want to be able to "beat" the other guy in a contest. Others like to "dress up" the engine. Easier to do if you have room to work.

  23. Odd, That doesn't make sense. What kind of manual do you have?? All L6 (at least in Z cars) hae the it the same. Firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4. The pic I attached previously has numbers on the plug wires at the distributor cap to indicate which spark plug each wire goes to. You got them attached to the right plugs now, don't you?

    Why does this occur with the Poly bushings, and not the Aluminum/Delrin bushing? If Poly bushings are "hard", I'd say the Aluminum/Delrin ones are "HARD". When I had Aluminum/Delrinn bushings (through out) they transmitted so much noise and "feel" through the chassis, that iit made me want to swerve to avoid pebbles, let a lone road cracks, divits, and potholes. But it sure handled!
