No Discount at Courtesy Nissan
100 % agreement! I work like this as well. I'm no rocket scientist, but I have acquired (over time) a pretty good library of 240Z books, manuals, and other reference materials. I refer to them constantly. What one book doe not cover well is often covered more thoroughly in another book. They all have something to offer me. I work slowly and methodically, and usually am pleased with the results.

No Discount at Courtesy Nissan
Hi Andrew: I didn't mean to indicate that a FSM isn't worth having. Far from it. It is one of my most valuable tools. Just meant that people shouldn't expect it to be as detailed as those "__________ for Dummies" type books that many of us have, or could have used on different subjects. It (the FSM) assumes a certain level of automotive knowledge and experience. Don't leave home without one!:stupid: There are FSM's on eBay right now for $75

Magic??????????????/
There is no doubt that grounds are necessary, but........ Keep in mind that the 350Zforum.com article refers to electronically controlled engines. The eBay auction refered to (for the most part) carbureted non (or minimally) computer controlled engines. The 350Z puts out about 287 HP stock. I quote, "All of the 350Zs tested that day had an increase in horsepower between pull 1 and pull 2. But none of the others had an increase of 3%. They averaged 1% to 2%. So in theory the grounding kit added 1% more horsepower. That would equate to almost 3 horsepower." The ebay auction pimps the product as giving 5 to 10 HP on vehicles that do not even approach 287 HP in stock trim. This would be a significant percentage increase in power, compared to what was reported on the 350Z. I find the auctions claims to be FAR overblown and bordering on fraud. Snake Oil indeed!

Got any data to back up that claim?

WARNING vvortex3 BAD SELLER!
Not necessarily. It is always worth it to pursue any avenue available to you. What do you have to lose? A few minutes time? Give it a shot. I paid $75 for some items via PayPal (wasn't even an eBay transaction) and when the products did not arrive after 3 weeks, I started the claims process through PayPal and within 10 business days I had the full amount credited back to me.

Gary: Do you have a pic or diagram of what you are looking for? I'm confused as to what seals you are refering to.

First I need to say I have no experience with the 280Z FSM, but I expect that they would be similar to the 240Z FSM's which I do have experience reading and using. The 240Z FSM, though a great resource, are not "infinitely" detailed in all areas. There are area's where the description is stated quite simply (i.e. Remove the whatchamacallit from the doo-icky) without mentioning the specific prcedure to do so, or mentioning the pitfalls you might face in attempting this procedure. A certain level of mechanical competence seems to have been assumed in the creation of these manuals. By in large, the manuals are designed to be used by relatively trained professional mechanics with access to the special tools mentioned throughout. Most people (i.e. the general public) only attempt basic servicing of their vehicles, and send the car to a professional for the major servicing. We are a different breed of cat here. We, (as a group) can utilize the FSM to help us mainain our vehicles, but it was not written with us (the general public) in mind.

What is this? Mounted below the coil
I don't know if there is a contemporary equivalent. I do know that Chloe at MidwestZ was not able to get a replacement for that (pictured) item for me.

What is this? Mounted below the coil
It is a capacitor, which is basically similar to the condensor in a points-type ignition system. The item you are asking about is part of a "noise supression" sytem added to many cars. You might also see one on the back of your alternator, and another attached to the right inner fender near your voltage regulator. Their job was/is to absorb RF to keep it from being picked up by your radio or stereo.

Location Poll
I 100% agree that there should have been a "USA - South", or more accurately a "USA - Southeast" catagory, but unfortunately a mistake was made. I assume that by MI (which is Michigan), you actually meant MS (which is Mississippi) and that FLorida, and TeNnesee were omitted from your list by accident. Which I believe is the same situation that occurred when billcapp began the thread. (BTW, he's located in FL) I'm fairly sure that Bill didn't leave out his own region intentionally. Once the poll was established, the website software would not allow it to be changed to correct the omission. For whatever it's worth, The regional maps I have seen, place states (such as OKlahoma, ARkansas, TeXas) that are west of the Mississippi geographically in the Midwest region even though they may have been considered Confederate states..

Just an FYI
Keith: What year suppliment did you get? The only year I've encountered on eBay was for a 1971. I won one, and it is, as you say, extremely useful, even though I have an early 72 Z (mfg 11/71) Like he says, get one if you can!

Correct termostat?/instalation
Attached Picture and text Quoted from Dr. JR Demers website: Thermostats Thermostats are cheap. If you think that the thermostat is your problem (car immediately overheats in city or on highway) then replace it. However, some thermostats are cheaper than others. Here I have a picture of an OEM Nissan thermostat and a Stant thermostat side by side. The differences in their construction are obvious and surprising. First, and most importantly, the aperature on the OEM thermostat is around 30% larger! Assuming that they both open the same distance (I actually think the OEM opens further since it is taller) means that the flow through the OEM thermostat is much greater. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Neither Haynes or FSM specifys a particular orientation for th Htermostat, but I always install them with the opening mechanism oriented to the rear (as viewed from the front of the car) of the housing. If your car had a thermostat with the opening "centered", well; it was the wrong thermostat. As you can see from the picture, neither the Nissan or Stant thermostat has a centered opening and the Nissan unit has a larger opening than the Stant model shown.

The Best Classic Z?
Chris: Maybe a late 73 240Z or early 260Z door? I'm not sure. Everyone I have spoken with indicates that the door latching points and mechanisms are different between 240 and 280 and they will not interchange without major modifications. I had a 3/73 mfg'd 240Z that had doors like the one in your picture.

The Best Classic Z?
Doors are not interchangable.

Stinking theives!
This maybe true in Oregon, but it's not in California. In this state it all comes down to the nature of the crime being committed. If you wake up in the middle of the night and find someone sitting at your kitchen table eating food out of your fridge, and shoot him; I guaranty you'll be the one in jail the longest. You are only allowed to use "appropriate" force (appropriate to the crime being committed) to protect yourself and your property. If a guy has a knife to your throat, you could get away with popping a cap in hisass. Sadly, the bleeding heart liberals of our society expect you to respect the "rights" of those jerks who ignore your rights to be safe and secure in your home, and to protect your property from thieves. The above does not apply to my house. I'll shoot first and worry about the consequences later.

1. The USA supplied most of the troops in the Iraq war. Does that make us Iraqi? 2. The poll is geographical in nature, not ideological.

Anyone in Oz used Victoria British?
I don't know. I got mine at Courtesy Nissan in Richardson Texas before I knew about Chloe. I did not get a full set for the entire car, and don't have the receipts anymore. Generally, the OEM seals are significantly more expensive than Precision. Sometimes you get what you pay for, if you know what I mean.

Anyone in Oz used Victoria British?
OH, MidwestZ will have the OEM seals which will fit your car much better than the ones sold by Vic Brit, which are manufactured by Precision Replacement Parts. Some people have a major problem closing their car doors with the PRP seals installed. They are too stiff and inflexible to allow the doors to close properly. I'd stick with OEM parts (actually, I did!) for weather seals. Just my opinion
