Chevron poisoned my car...
Well, I just cleared a phone call with Bills Datsun outside of Gresham, apparently he's the ONLY guy around that has a knowledge of Mikunis. He comes highly recommended, I thought that he was cool on the phone.... Maybe it'll end up there, who knows. Beaverton Nissan quoted me about $1100 to go thru the carbs. I think they're scared.... I dunno, I've pulled the carbs down twice now. I can't believe that there is bad stuff still in there. I took the car on a 80 mile round trip this afternoon to have a dynomax system put on it and it never improved, the hesitation is sporatic, it ran flawless at the end of the trip, then I took it out later and it ran like shi* again. Which by the way, thank you to the Forest Grove cop for letting me off w/ a warning... Wouldn't all the fresh gas thru the lines flush 'em out? (Frustrated) Brian....

Chevron poisoned my car...
Ok, now I am mad. Crusing around in the '74, needed gas, pulled into a Chevron and put the standard 10 bucks super and went one mile and the car quit. After being towed home it was discovered that the gas was contaminated with water and who knows what, below is a pic of the ^%&*$#! fuel. I am SOOO pissed. I had this car running FLAWLESSLY. Would accelerate strongly, no hesitation at all. After draining all the gas from the tank, replacing the fuel pump along with all the filters, taking all three Mikunis off the car and drianing / cleaning them the car still runs like @#$%. Acceleration is jumpy runs rough. Chevron has admitted fault and will compensate me. Still, I would rather the car just went back to normal. I guess that I can go thru the carbs again. Has anyone else had to go thru this hell? And if so am I missing something? I just want to kill someone. Oh, and merry Xmas.

The heck is this?
yes, 2many, that's what throws me. And it seems to do NOTHING. I do not understand it. The "push" beckons me.... If that's how you spell beckons... I feel like every time I push it I am turning the light on and off somewhere in Austrailia. Mike? Any light action while you were there? B

73 240Z Carb Choke Mystery - Weber 32/36
Hey Zlish, If a SU carb is set up correctly, it will NOT start when cold without using the choke. Some days when its a warm summer day you might get lucky. For those of you that can fire up the ol' Z without choking the beast (now this is SU's mind you...) you are running rich. And, pumping these carbs in the morning is a waste of time because they have NO accelerator pump. I had to break the habit being a Chevy guy also..... So, Zlish, I would have to say that choking is normal, mine in the '73 take a while to be "happy", usually not until it's at at least 120 degrees. Hope it helps.... ~Brian

73 240Z Carb Choke Mystery - Weber 32/36
I was experiencing the same stuff with the carbs on my '73. I went to Z Therapy and we established that the nozzles and needles needed replacing. I put in the SM needles from Ztherapy and it was the best $60 I've ever spent on that car... The color tune is going to do you no good in this sitch...however it is a good tool to have around. With an idle that comes and goes you have a vary in the amount of fuel that is introduced into the chamber. 2 1/2 turns should run the car. I would bet that you have worn nozzles. You can research this at Ztherapy.com, Steve is very helpful and has been working on these carbs for years, I highly recommed that you check them out. Feel free to call me, the symptoms that you have are close to the ones that I had...I know it can be very frustrating...:stupid: E-mail me in the event you want my number..... Good luck, ~Brian

fuel pump not sucking?
Yes, the wife is stumbling around like Ozzy Osbourne so I guess that you could say that she is better.... And you can just type JZ like the rest of the guys, the name is too long and had been around too long to change now... The RX7 pump was put in the black '74 and it made it faster. Just what it needed. I believe the 0 - 60 is around 4.5 seconds now. No, I am not kidding. First and second gear are a waste of my time. Can anyone donate slicks so I can hook up??????? I promise it will be a tax write-off!!!!!! ~Brian (or JZ)

fuel pump not sucking?
First of all, please correct me on this if I am wrong... That being said, I had a similar problem with the elec. pump on my '74. The car had sat for a year or so, the gas was garbage at best and the triple Mikunis had lost their prime. Even after getting rid of all the old fuel, I could not get the lines to pressure up when starting the car. I fought this for hours thinking it was bad gas in the carbs and after some poking around, I found that the pump will not cycle with the key in the "on" position. I even ran a test light and would get nothing at the wiring to the pump. Now, here's where I may be wrong...I was told that the pump will not run unless the alternator is turning, which activates a relay and the fuel pump comes to life. This was a safety precaution from Nissan in the event that the car was in a crash or the motor quit, once the alternator stops turning, so does the fuel pump. The reason that I am telling you this is because I wired up a good fuel pump that I had tested before I installed it and when I turned the key on to listen to the pump, I got nuthin'. Once the motor starts, my fuel pump runs without a problem. Don't chase your tail like I did thinking it was pump / wiring / me loosing my mind... This can be a real problem if the Mikunis loose their prime, which after some disassembly and cleaning that problem stopped. I installed a push button test switch that I can press for a bit to key the fuel pump to prime 'em up before I crank it over. It has been handy. And no, this is not a switch that can be accidentally left on, you need to hold it down to complete the circut, when you let it go, the circut is broke.... I also put in a glass filter just before the fuel rail that you can see the fuel pumping thru. It's nice to see the action of your pump doing it's job, that way you KNOW that the system is getting fuel. Not only that, you can keep an eye on the cleanliness of your fuel also. By the way, I am running the electric pump only on the '74. It seems to supply the Mikunis just fine, I have buddies that have triples on their track cars and they are pushing 9 LBS to them. I did pick up an RX7 pump and it works great, comparable in-line pumps at NAPA were around $60 to $100 and then would require a regulator also. It gets spendy quick. Hope it goes well, keep us posted.

I drew a picture..
Hey Monkey, How are you posting those pictures to your thread without using the attachment? I was trying to include a picture to a recent thread and all I could do was attach a file instead of pasting a picture directly? Gotta tell me how.... Bri

I'm gonna regret this...Part II
Here's part one: Ok, here we go, The PREVIOUS owner of my '74 converted the rear light system to this somewhat Ferrari 308, of which I will have pic's of tomorrow for your review... Has anyone seen this in the past? I hated it at first, now it seems to be growing on me or I am getting lazy in the switchover. Or switchback whichever it is. Give me some feedback on this, I will post the pics tomorrow. I can't afford the Ferrari (yet) and (give me about a hundred years) I figure if I want a Ferrari butt I should get the dog too.. Let 'er rip...It's up to you guys / gals... AND THE SAGA CONTINUES!!! Here are the pics of the rear of the Z, I still can't decide, and I checked my stock and the tail asslembly I have is from a 280... Here we go, and like I said, I'm gonna regret this.... Remember, I did not do this I am mearly seeking opinion.... Godspeed. Bri
