  1. I think it's probably the old adage that "there is no such thing as bad press". He probably just did it to get his sponsers some attention. Plus, he probably was under the impression that well, you know, little Tommie does all the thinking for the both of us. Funny the media doesn't mention much about that in his bio? Sopwith is right, it's all the media's fault. They did mention that his dad was a famous racer though. I think they should just stick to his records, which are too numerous to list.
  2. Carl, sounds like the clubs in Indy better get ready. If he had only posed for a men's magazine maybe he would still be testing F1 cars, seems sexist against guys somehow.
  3. Did the Star have much to say about why Schectker still had a ride after almost three years with no results (positive ones, not most DNF's per start)? Well, he finaly took a winning car to first place. Almost makes up for all the ones he rolled into scrap metal. I say BRAVO Tomas!
  4. Maybe it's time to start a new thread "Texas IRL race not won by Danica". Hurry, do it now before the results are in!

Adjust the left tie rod 1 turn longer, and the right tie rod 1 turn shorter. I'm just making an example, I have no idea (from here) which rod should go longer/shorter or by how much. If you change each in the correct direction by the same amout it will not change your wheel alignment, only where "neutral" is on your steering wheel.
  6. Are tension/compression (T/C) rods the same as radius rods downunder? If so, then the larger ID goes towards the wheel and the smaller ID goes towards the T/C fastening nut.
  7. Alan, actually Indianapolis is quite famous for it's strip clubs. Guess all those racers keep them in business. Indiana is also the hotbed of nudist resorts, so if watching the F1 cars on a manufactured road course is not that exciting then you could take a trip to the countryside. Sopwith, don't even know how to get through to you. I've read and re-read all the posts so far, and I can't see how your get to your conclusions. I admire your defense of YOUR THREAD belittling a rookie drivers good performance in a historicly weak field in the "worlds greatest restricted entry national series event run by the media to the detriment of no-names everywhere" held in the facility formerly world famous for head to head competition among all who were fast enough, or WGRENSErbtMttDoNE as it shall now be known.
  8. OFF TOPIC: I wonder if Bernie has his eye on buying out any 2005 Indy drivers contracts? He always seems to be looking for a Yank driver (or Yank champion) to feed to the lions. Alan, even here F1 rates 4 lines in the local paper after each race, unless someone wins their 5th World Campionship then it's 8 lines. As for the local television news, never a mention. Must be that F1 is a regional series :), alot like the Indy 500 is now.
  9. Sopwith, So now you did see the wheel banging. You don't seem to understand my point in bringing it up. The racers on the track all faced individual make or break moments, some came thru the fire and some did not. Bruno was unfortunate, Danica had racing luck during the wheel banging and caution spin. Racing luck is that thing that either makes you a Scheckter or a Patrick. It goes back to my statement that pre-race hype is as usefull as post race snivelling. The race is run and the results can not be changed by any amount of post race chatter. Your main point seams to be that many drivers have not gotten their fair share of attention. I think Alan (HS30-H) made it clear that Indy is only a poor copy of what it once was, and hardly rates attention outside the USA. I'm afraid that goes for most of the drivers in this years race also. Of the 33 starters this year I can really only find 11 that could have made the race years ago (and DP isn't one of them). How can you expect people (or the press) to praise Giafone for starting 33rd and finish 15th (six laps down) when he finished ahead of 17 DNF'S? He actualy passed one car for position!!!! Ed Carpenter started 26th and after being spotted 17 spots dropped two positions (one lap behind). Maybe they haven't received attention based on results? After all they have had more than five races to get noticed, and most of those have been pre-Danica, so who is to blame now? You know very well that DP's attention at Indy was on a par with M. Andretti's and little Al's rookie hype. You also know that her result in the race and qualifing was better. Nobody but you has said that she was the second coming. Can't help but feel that behind all your arguments is the itchy bit that she is a "chick".
  10. Sopwith, I guess you must have been getting snacks when DP had a wheel banging with a back marker at speed, and unlike Bruno she drove through it. If we can't compare a five race rookie bringing a "winning car home forth" to M.Andretti's number of winning cars that never finished (your rules), then how about Michaels first Indy? How did he do? He didn't get any extra media attention his first year at Indy without results I hope. How about Al Unser Jr, his rookie result and number of media blurbs? Did either of them finaly end up deserving the attention they received as INDY ROOKIES before winning forty races (or retirement)? Actually I believe that could you could have correctly stated that she brought a forth place car home in forth. It was Kaanan that brought a first place car home , well somewhere less than forth.
  11. Yes, she drove a winning car to forth, and how many winning cars did Michael Andretti drive to DNF's? Giafone, Carpenter, Herta the world asks the question "Who are they?" Jungeria (hard time spelling, though I do know who he is) lost his car in the same kind of incident that Danica drove through. Anybody named Foyt (with, or without numerals or Jr's) is irrelevant and has been for years. Drives from 32nd to 10th sound good, but how many drivers did they pass that were not on the end of a wrecker? The country now knows at least one drivers name (outside of F1 and Nascar) and I think thats good for the sport. Once people start watching what is left of single seat racing in this country then maybe we will end up with what we had before the personal power play to create "opportunity for young AMERICAN drivers". Though the defectors from "gocart" have kind of squeezed out Tony's boys. I don't care any more if it's the IRL or "whatever they call themselves now".
  12. Sopwith, you sound like Danica got your seat at Indy (shoulda-woulda-coulda). Media attention, isn't that the name of the corporate sponsered game? Don't I recall that you are part of the media, and have given this site links to the press of your exploits (self media explotation, gasp). The pre-race babble is as valuable as the post-race snivelling. Real racers know that the race is run, the results are finalized, and no amount of excuses can move you up, or down in the standings. The facts:fast all month, lead race under green (passed the winner to do it), finished 4th (with no excuses). Possibly the highest finishing real rookie (not ringer World Champ, or competing series champ). She is the real deal. Media attention, is that what puckers you? The media wasn't in any drivers car today, just DRIVERS.
  13. Carl, the axle has two flats milled into it which removes the threads there. The nut has an un-threaded "collar" which is deformed to match the flats AFTER the nut is torqued. When you try to remove nut without grinding off deformed area it screws up the last 4 or 5 threads on axel. When the real nut portion is un-screwed past the buggered axel threads they are also ruined and make it almost impossible to get a NEW nut back on (remember old nut is destroyed with/ or without grinding of crimp!!!!). Please sacrifice the nut to save the axel!
  14. Mark, couldn't we all use more pipe!
  15. Mark, use concrete anchors to fasten bench to wall. Remenber it's 250 ft-lbs lubed and un-crimped (way f-ing higher crimped!). Matria you must have some way heavy homies and some very sticky tires!
  16. Mark, If you have a good bench vise (if you don't, then get one) mounted on a fairly sturdy bench you will be ok. The following assumes you have a wooded bench. Lag screw your work bench to the wall studs. Lag screw a block of hard wood to bench top (the width to fit between wheel studs, and the height to axle flange when vise is clamped to strut tube.). Make it long enough to get plenty of screws in it spaced far apart to resist lots of torque. Put a 4' breaker (6' even better) bar on your biggest socket handle (plain swivels are cheaper to replace than ratchets) Turn nut towards wall studs (you will find the lags screws keep bench from lifting off of floor. Believe me!). Give your buddy a beer to help you push on breaker bar(well worth it) Oh yah, grind the freaking crimp off the nuts like I told you before. I've done it this way before (believe it or not).

"So, you like my breats. Now you must Payboy." What's on Bill's mind?
  19. Mark, in the manual do they show removing the stub axel with the suspension ON the car? Maybe "caulking" is Japliguish for chalking (wheel chocks)? I had no problem getting replacement nuts a few years ago. Still have some fairly good ones if you need them.
  20. mdbrandy, consider the axel nuts disposable. I have torn apart four hubs without grinding off peened area and have had to chase the axel (not disposable!) threads on all four. Plus you can figure the torque needed to un-screw the nuts at twice what they were torqued at (R.F.T.). Buy new nuts and grind old ones away. No way to change studs without pulling axel.

Might be a small problem with the terminology. Your Z doesn't have a rear axel, but it does have two halfshafts and a differential center section. The halfshafts have universal joints at the inner (differential) side, and outer (strut/hub) side. Are these what you want to replace?

I think that posts that contain more than three sentences "quoted" from a previous post are bunk. The need to pick apart others statements (as though this were a court of law), sentence by sentence, is most evidenced in the "flame threads". Just resist the temptation to prove your nemisis is wrong. If you can't say what you want to say without 6 quotes, from 4 posts, from 3 people----keep your mouth shut! EDITED: No need to "quote" this in any replies to this thread. I think it's pretty clear to all. I feel no need to defend my view, so your response should be whatever your origional thoughts are.
