  1. Hello all, Brought my P79 head into a shop yesterday to have some work done. I'm having new SI valves, guides, springs, retainers installed and shave the head 0.080". I asked my machinist if he can get the stem heights the same from exhaust/intake. He told me that they are going to be whatever height they end up at because of the new guides and valves. To get all the heights the same it would require all new seats, which he quoted as 2k+ job alone. I've been given advice on 2 schools of thoughts here from his experience from 2 different professional builders. All stem heights should be the same and there should be a zero variance on all valves in order to have the same size lash pad. It is common to have different stem heights when taking it in for a valve job/guide replacement and you should see varying heights as intake and exhaust valves are different heights. As long as you have the correct size lash pads and the wipe patterns are centered, having different installed heights does not matter. Just curious what everyone elses thoughts are on this? Also, have any of you brought in a head to have new guides/valves installed and had success with stem heights recutting the existing seat or are new valve seats required? Thanks!
  2. Thanks for the responses. I think I might just go with Hastings rings just to be safe. Seems like its the most cost effective option with reported good reviews.
  3. I was browsing through Church of L Series past posts. Seems to be the same guy preaching it though. I did read somewhere else the "secret" to using ITM pistons is not using their rings and upgrading. Thought I would ask here if anyone wanted to share their experiences with running them on their cars.
  4. Hello has anyone here have experience with running ITM piston rings? About to get into my rebuild and have read some not so great opinions on them. I tried looking for some 0.020" oversized rings and can't seem to find anything but ITM and Hastings.
  5. Hello All, I am swapping to a 250z(N36) fan 240z(E46) balance tube. I'm trying to figure out which throttle linkage it requires. Do I need a full 240z throttle linkage from balance tube to fire wall or would replacing the shorter "J Rod" from the shorter 260z to the longer 240z be the only thing i need. Thank you
  6. Hello All, Trying to find a set of valve guides for my p79 head. Are the intake and exhaust side interchangeable? I'm finding conflicting results, where they state it's for both sides and some vendors selling the intake and exhaust sides seperately.
  7. Looking to get an new fuel sending unit for Christmas. I was wondering since I have a late 260z and that they share parts with a 280z. Does anyone know if I should be getting a 240z fuel sending unit or 280z? Thanks
  8. Looking to get a set of 75-78 280z valves for my p79 head. Shopping around it seems like the brands that offer the valves are ITM, DNJ, Unknown vendor on z car depot or the more expensive options california datsun SS valves, and supertech. Other than NOS Fuji am I missing any brands here? Also, does anyone have experience with ITM or DNJ parts? Thank you,
  9. Wish it was that easy. There is a casting it just says 01 though.
  10. It does taper down into a smaller hole. Would the measurement be from the top of the taper or the bottom?
  11. Got a Duralast M51837 brake master cylinder off a buddy of mine. It's supposedly a 15/16. When I measured the bore it is a little over 1". Would I be able to use this paired with a 280zx brake booster or is 1" too big?
  12. I would say it depends on where you are located. A 240z/260z here in California are definitely more sought after than a 280z because of emissions law, unless you can find a 75 280z which is rare. If emissions wasn't a thing I would have been picking up a 280z for less. I get it though about the L28 swap which I have considered extensively. My plan is to build the L26 because it is the fastest avenue to getting my car back on the road. I figured if I feel I want to swap an L28 in the future, I can build a really nice one on the side and swap it later.
  13. Thanks guys looks like junkyardjenny has some for a great price.
  14. Does anyone know where I can get the bottom piece under the door striker? I think it is called a spring loaded door stopper. I have seen some cars without them are they necessary? Thanks,
  15. Do you have anything done to the e88 head?
