Difference between Z cars.
Also the cars got heavier as they went farther down the production process the 70-71 240's are the lightest then the 72-73 240's and so forth due to smog , safety and other things, and the best year 260z to buy is the one with the least amount of rust , the 74 was split up during production between small and large bumper styles , I believe there was other diffrences as well, but the earlier the 240 and lower the production number the more valuble some people find them to be, good luck

Engine vin# is different the car vin#
actually most older american cars had "matching numbers motor tranny " setups. makes rare cars worth more and insured that you have the correct motor according to build sheets

Engine vin# is different the car vin#
when I registered both my 240's they just did the paperwork and didn't even need to see the car, they won't car either way, now that the issurance and florida's dl computer is linked you having a valid dl and issurance is the only issue. Otherwise they don't care and besides being that old the car is exempt from impact fees and most everything else

260z Vapor Tank repair?
Hey all, was helping my brother <broken74> replace his tank hoses and get his gas tank checked and we were in the middle of putting all of it back together when we found a big issue. One of the two large vent hose nipples where you attach them to the vapor tank is loose , like the welds have come apart. It doesn't pull away from the tank but the nipple area kinda rotates loosely. Would this be something we could jb weld < brothers ideal > or should we just find a 260z vent tank and wait the 3-5 days for shipping. Guess we figured where the fumes were coming from other than the heater hose used incorrectly and assorted torn hoses. The PO was a wonderful mechanic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

another barn car
yea , I was a bit surprised as well, considering all the z type info he lists you would think he would looking into current value and what is selling presently, with that thought I would have wanted a min of 5-6g for the car

another barn car
Nice looking car , but agree with Carl the pics don't match what he says unless the owner was very anal and detailed the car and engine compartment before he stored it, and the clacking sounds like stuck or valve that just needs to be adjusted, and his works make me nervous about the title, very nice car though

Ever drive/own a 300ZX Turbo?
I have driven several z31 models and they are ok , not my cup of tea at all, personally thought they handled less than wonderful and they were so loaded up with crap like digital dash and extra stuff that just seems to break , the z32 I would take I agree they drive and steer like a heavy car and the ones I have driven had pretty good brakes not 911 quality or oversized front and rear disk 240z braking but pretty good. the z32 has a great driving position and I enjoy the twin turbo models , but be warned the 300tt is a maintance hog , the regular z32 isn't that bad but the tt can get very expensive , good luck , but the way the z32 drive alot like a toyota supra

What do you think of 72' Z as a daily driver?
Congrats on your future purchase, if the car now is a semi or daily driver I think it wil be fine, if the car sat or hasn't been kept up regularly you will run into issues. Things to expect from my expierences would be wheel bearings , brake issues if it sat too long , carb issues all really depending on how the previous owner kept it. I would recommend switching the distributor to electronic to make it more reliable and to reduce service issues < points and such>. Good Luck and Enjoy

Just doing some bashing
no offence , i say sleeper because it lacks the go fast stickers wings or other crap that most ricers think make their cars better or faster, I also would rather keep it to Z's they stay in the garage and are babied anyway

Can you get Build Sheets?
well if you want call i think it is still i800nissan1 or check nissan driven.com there is a customer service number that might help but I can tell you from expierence there is no such info as build sheets, there wasn't the options like muscle cars had, you know auto/ manual , 3 diffrent motor , 2 diffrent rear ends and assorts packages ralley street or strip like many gm, ford and mopar products had. There was no need. If you get more than a deer in the headlight sort of answer from nissan I would fall over, only thing I have ever gotten from them was "no" . And a few offers on my 240 if i drove it to the dealership. Good Luck
