240,260 and 280 differences
Hello Well first off, the 240Z's were born in 69 so for the first generation Z's it's 69-78. For the U.S. models, The 2+2's didn't start until 74 I believe with the 260Z's and on but you still could get them in the regular 2 seaters as well and yes, the 2 seater 260Z/280Zs shared the same body style as the 240's. There are many differences however between them but as far as body style is concearned, they are pretty much the same looking. To answer your question on the 2+2's - Yes, they are longer and heavier with a little wider wheel base. most prefer the lighter and more sporty looking 2 seater Z's but there is nothing wrong with a nice 2+2 either if you find a real nice one. I've seen some that are dressed up pretty nice and don't look bad. It all depends which one best fits your needs. Hope this helps answer your qestion. Others will chime in as well I'm sure

Jack stands under seat belt pockets?
I already gave him that exact answer for the rear in a Private Message. My photo and explanation in THIS thread is for the front only which is the correct spot. Should have continued through PM to avoid confusion (My Fault) Not trying to go against you dave but I have always followed the FSM and have put my stands there for supporting the front with no problems at all. Always Nice and solid with no movement. That photo was a while ago when I replaced my Tie rod ends and ball joints. That photo isn't the best either. The jack stand kinda appears further back than it really is.

Jack stands under seat belt pockets?
Yeah, you'll be fine. Put the stands right before where it curves up as seen in my photo. It shows to put it there in the Factory Service Manual as well so as long as you don't have rusted out rails, your safe

Jack stands under seat belt pockets?
Hey Andy, I dug through my old photos. I think this was one of them you were looking for. Sorry but I was only able to find just the 1 and it's for the front when I did my ball joints and tie rod ends. Hope this at least helps give you a better idea of the front jack stand locations. Excuse my big foot in the way

1977 280z - What do I need to look for?
Hard to really tell without pics but unfortunately when rust is a factor and it's bad enough where it's eaten holes through, your more than likely going to be sticking more money into fixing it than what the car is worth. Many will repair them anyways for the love of the car even though they know they will never be able to get a full return. Plus you say the guy hasn't turned the key and ran it in 6 yrs. so be prepaired to stick some $$$ on the mechanical side as well. I guess it's up to you how much money you want to spend on it. If your good mechanically you can do most of it yourself which will save you a lot. especially if your a welder and can fix the body issues yourself. Otherwise it won't be cheap and my suggestion is to keep looking. Whats the most your willing to spend if you don't mind me asking?

1977 280z - What do I need to look for?
Rust is for sure the most important thing to look out for. Some of the most common spots are the Battery Tray/Firewall, floor pans, frame rails, Spare tire well to name a few. Best of luck with your search Sadly I'm selling my very nice low mileage 1977 280Z

Brake light issue

looking for z
Great advise above. Insurance Co. are like a necessary evil. They can and will screw you every chance they get if you don't put up a fight yet it's something you must have. Anyway I too have a 1977 that I plan on putting up for sale in the spring not because I want to but because due to the tougher economic times it forces me to. It's a beautiful low mileage Z so it may be out of your price range anyway here is an attached photo of it. took this before I put her away for winter storage. Best of luck with everything, Jared

hello gang, got a sad update :(
Thanks guys. Your right Stephen about missing it once it's gone. It's going to feel like someone ripped the heart out of my chest when I see it go for good but for right now, I just need to free up some extra cash right now for more inportant things during this tough economic time. I will ALWAYS have a love and pasion for the classic Z Car and I'm hoping to be able to get another one later in my life when the timing is better and the economy is better. ZCarLife, interesting Avatar :eek: I haven't decided when exactly I'm going to list it for sale but I can send you some info and pics.

hello gang, got a sad update :(
It's been quiet a while since I've been able to get on the old computer. Never a shortage of things to do. Unfortunately I'm going to have to part with my beautiful blue baby guys. It makes me so sick to have to do it and it was something I never planned on doing but this tough economy is just leaving me with no choice. Things are going to be getting slower during the winter months in my line of work (RV Tech.) and they are talking about how we might have to start leaving a hr. early everyday plus a 2 week shut down around the holidays. It all really adds up and makes it a little tough to hang onto my Z hobby plus paying the storage garage every month is a pain as well. Tough thing I'm running into is I have crappy winter up here in Minnesota and November is around the corner so I got her tucked away now. All I got left to do is pull the battery for winter. What are your guy's thoughts? Would it be better to put it up for sale early next spring? Thanks again all. One thing is for sure when I do this, I will miss this Z BIG time when it goes:(

It's been a little while so....
Thanks Adam. They told us if sales pick up and we can unload all the old rigs in our lot that they will put us all back to our orig. salery. Just have to see how it goes I guess. Not looking forword to the next upcoming winter

It's been a little while so....
Thought I'd say hello Kinda have some depressing news as I'm considering selling my Z Car. Believe me this is something that I DO NOT want to do but I'm just kinda kicking the idea around because well times are tougher now because of this poor economy. I recently had to take a slight pay decrease which really cut into my Z hobby (Not complaining as I'm damn glad I still have my job) I'm a tech for an RV Dealer as some of you may know and the RV business is still obviously hurting right now. We still have 08 models sitting around which is costing the dealership I work at big time which as result they had to do layoffs and those of us up there in seniority got to stay but had to take a cut in salery. I just hate thinking of parting with my blue baby but I just don't know if I want to go through the storage expenses (winter especially) during this recession. I will If I have to though If I do decide to let it go believe me, I for sure plan to get another one later in life if I'm able to do it over again. Anyway sorry for the soap opera crap but thought I'd give those who care an update. I've been tied up debating about this for a while Not an easy choice :disappoin

Well I feel like an idiot
Hey I've done it before too. No Big deal man

Well I feel like an idiot
Not sure what you mean Enigma. where did I dis HybridZ??? Just stating a fact. If he's looking to hot rod his Z then Yes, HybridZ is a more fitting place for him. No argument on the fact he'll wear out his welcome over there eventually with that kind of attitude. He will with anyone if he doesn't grow up.

Well I feel like an idiot
Typical Dumb arse Kid. In life kid, you have to give respect in order to get respect in return. Remember that. If your against preserving factory Z's, then this isn't the site for you. If your looking to turn your Z into a hot rod then do us all a favor and go to hybridZ.org You'll fit right in there :stupid:

new photos of logan's 73z
I'm with Carl. For rust damage that severe in those locations, can be fixed but your looking at spending lots and lots of $$$$$ and major hard work. You'll save some dollars if your a good welder/metal worker and can do that type of work yourself. I think you would be smart to make life easier on yourself and your wallet to get a better more solid project Z Car and use your current one for parts Just my thoughts but you have my support whichever route you decide to take

Well I feel like an idiot
Sweet. That makes me feel better. Figured it had to be something like that.

Well I feel like an idiot
Ok update. Took some photos today. Any of you frame rail experts are more than welcome to chime in OK 1st pic, I got some of the undercoating off to look and notice the tan color the closer you go towards the back? What scares me is it felt almost like a hard plastic when I knocked on it with my finger :paranoid: 2nd pic, This is the rail on the drivers side towards the front - noticed more of the off white color stuff 3rd pic, This is the drivers side - See the big scrape mark (again with the off white color underneith. 4th pic, This is the passenger side rail - see how whatever they hit cought that joint and peeled it back? 5th pic, Side view of 4th picture (Pass. rail) 6th pic, another view of the pass. rail where it got peeled back. Last pic, This is the rail on the drivers side. Location is I'd say between the back of the drivers seat and before the left rear wheel well. This has really been driving me nuts guys The last 4 are the ones that concearn me most and the off white $^!#. Hope it's just a paint or primer Probably not my luck.

Ugh looking for a new Z car
I can't remember every little detail but some of the simple things like 2.6L (260Z) Vs. 2.4L (240Z) Little bit heavier than the 240Z, and from what I've read they have more emissions junk on them like the carbs for example. The 73 240Z was infected with the undesirable carbs too though. Nothing that can't be corrected Most people swap to the earlier round top 240Z carbs with great success For more detailed differences, try the "Search" feature on this site and MSA sells good books with detailed info. about the 1st gen Z's so try that as well. Theres plenty of info. out there on them, it's just a matter finding it and your off to a good start being here on this site

This thread is taking an off topic and ugly turn. Come on guys lets not go into attack mode here Not saying I disagree with you Stephen but forget about replying to Tomo. what is Nissan coming to??
Again, we are all different. If we all liked the same stuff this world would be a boring place Along with Nissan I'm also a big Mopar guy. Every mopar I've had has never left me stranded. Right now my everyday driver is a '05 Dodge Dakota Club Cab V8. I just love it. Very sharp looking rig and It's just the right size (Not too small and underpowered, yet not over kill too big and fits in my garage nice. Perfect size truck for my needs and with the 5 speed automatic, it gets actually pretty good gas mileage for a V8 (About 20MPG on the highway.

what is Nissan coming to??
Me personally I think it's an eye sore. Sorry to you "Yung Market" people I'm the old school type and love a car with cool curves and lines like our Z's. That thing looks like a flipped over bath tub on wheels  But hey we all have different tasts I think they can make a sharp sporty looking vehicle thats both Practical and affordable and turns heads (In a good way Like the looks I get driving my Z. Not the kinda look like "What in the hell is that hidious thing???") Just voicing my personal opinion about it. If the "cube" is your kind of style, then more power to you It's sure not my cup of tea
