I agree with Carl. I'm sure he will find someone willing to spend that amount for it. It's for sure worth it. He has the same exact tires I put on my baby. BF Goodrich Traction T/A's
  2. Thanks for answering that bro Stupid me I should have included that in my response :stupid:
  3. s14280zx, There are 3 things I would test for this type of problem. Water Temperature Sensor, Thermotime Switch, & Cold Start Valve in that order. If one of those 3 parts go faulty then it will cause symptoms like your having. On the Bosch plugs- You read correctly Way back when I first bought my Z, the previous owner used the bosch platinums and she ran very rough. I first started doing basic tune up stuff to her and those were the first things to go Nothing but NGK's for my beautiful Z Just changing those alone made a big difference and the bosch plugs in my Z were like new too. Also you said you replaced the distributor Cap & Rotor- Hopefully the rotor you bought is the same brand as the cap you got. Mixing brands can cause an incorrect air gap. Thought I'd mention that too being that I've seen a few people make that mistake. Best of luck and let us know how you come out.

I just redid all mine this last summer (New factory Nissan Ball Joints & Tie Rod Ends.) Like Jon mentioned, if your replacing them with new ones which it sounds like you are because they are worn out, then a good pickle fork kit will suit your needs perfectly. I have the pickle fork set that can be used both in an air hammer or pound on them with a regular hammer. My best advise to you is to get the forks that can be used with an air hammer which is the way I did it. It will save you alot of headache When I did mine I tried the regular hammer and wasn't getting anywhere. I then pulled out my air hammer and with a short squeeze on the trigger, they came right off. This is of course if you have the luxury of an air compressor in your garage. Here is the set I have.
  5. This last summer before fall came, I took a few days vacation from work and redid all my ball joints & tie rod ends with all new factory Nissan parts. The Ball Joints and Tie rod ends only took me a full day. I then called it a night and then I performed the alignment the next morning. The rest of my long weekend I was out enjoying cruising around New front end components always makes a huge difference
  6. I'm in Cottage Grove, MN. Don't know if you know where that is. I've heard about ZOOM but no, I'm not a member. Haven't been to any meets either because it's kinda on the opposit end of town from me but I'd like to try and check it out sometime. Take care and yes, I'm counting down the days till spring as well
  7. Thanks Gary, Bryan, Jason, and Zak. Good to hear from you guys again. I haven't been on here for about a month. been spending practically all my weekends with my grandfather who is 92 yrs, old and is going through a tough time health wise. Anyway I'm sure looking forward to another fun spring/summer in 2007 with my beautiful Z like I'm sure you guys all are. Sure miss her as she sits safe and sound in her little garage for winter Take care guys. By the way Zak how is your project coming along? Are you still thinking about a blue color for it?
  8. Looks like a new photo on the main home page. Looks Awesome Anywho just thought I'd come out of hibernation to wish all my fellow classic Z'ers a merry Christmas and happy new years Take care Z friends,
  9. See Dogma420 The man doesn't have a garage. That was my point in what you were quoting me on in your last post. Some people just don't have all the luxuries to do a lot of there own work on there cars or knowledge. (Not directing the knowledge part at you Tom ) The Classic Z's do rely on owners that are fanatics like us here to maintain them. Most so called mechanics today just don't have the knowledge on these older Z's and they can create more problems for you than you started with. :paranoid: Tom, If you do decide on this Z or another one in equal shape, I highly recommend finding some way to shelter your beauty from the elements. especially this time of year with winter since your in New York. I'm in Minnesota and had to tuck my little one away for winter like I always do every year. Mine is an Arizona beauty and I'm going to keep it that way If these cars see winter, they will rust bad no matter how much you wash it. But anyway not trying to steer you away from getting a classic 1st gen. Z Hopefully there is some kind of Z club or shop in your area that can be of help to you since not having a garage is an issue for you. Of course, us here at this site will always try our best to help you as well Take care and good luck with your Z search.
  10. Not necessarily. Your right about how simple things like a tune up should be taken care of by the seller before he/she puts the car up for sale but some are just lazy and don't care because they figure "why worry about it, I'm selling it anyways" Not that it's right, but some people would rather stick the money into there new toy, or for other personal reasons why they have to sell it. I had to work out some bugs on mine back when I bought it like what I mentioned above and I don't regret it all. I would have missed out on my beautiful Z if I would have let those little issues stop me. Others on here have had to do the same I'm sure when they have boughten there Z's. I can't say for sure because I personally have not seen the car in person but if that car is as clean as it looks in that photo with low miles, then 5,000 isn't bad TO ME even with the running issues. If your looking for a classic 1st generation Z that needs absolutely nothing (both runs/drives and looks new, ect.) and you don't have to do a damn thing to it then expect to pay more than 5,000.00 Just my personal opinion. Tom, you have seen this car in person so if you work on them, you should have a better idea what shape its in better than the rest of us that have NOT seen it in person. All we can do is just offer suggestions & opinions. If you feel like your better off waiting and could do better, then thats cool. Do what YOU feel is right. I know some people (maybe not you) just don't have the equipment, room, or time to do work on there cars. Again, best of luck in whatever you decide to do
  11. Yeah, there ya go probably has bosch plugs in it too. The Z's do not like Bosch plugs, cap, rotor for some reason. Ask any Classic Z nut that has tried them. They just run poorly on them. NGK plugs are what came in these cars new and work the best. that alone will make a huge difference. If you want my opinion, 5,000.00 seems fair if its as good as she looks in that photo. I guess it's up to you wheather or not you want to work out all the bugs or keep looking for another one that already is in good running shape.
  12. Well what is he asking for it? Sounds like she just needs a good tune up. I remember way back when I purchased mine she ran similar to those symptoms but it didn't stop me from purchasing it because I loved it so much and the body was spotless. After I first got mine I looked everything over thoroughly and started to make my "To Do" list First I found that the previous owner used Bosch Spark Plugs so New NGK plugs/wires went on the list including new Nissan Cap and rotor, fuel filter ect. Also noticed rubber fuel hoses under the hood showing cracks, so new high pressure Nissan 5/16 fuel hose and clamps went on the list, Noticed AFM Boots were severely cracked and unmetered air was entering which was fauling up the air/fuel mixture so new Nissan AFM boots went on the list. Then I noticed when on the highway she rode like I was driving on rail road ties Tires were WAY out of balance and the rims looked pretty rough so new tires and wheels went on the list too ect. ect. I've done plenty more as the yrs. went on. I've had to install a new Nissan Starter, New reverse lamp switch in the transmission that was leaking, this summer I just I had to redo all the ball joints and tie rod ends with new Nissan parts because those were all original and worn out. Made a HUGE difference. The point is (depending on how much he is asking) It's kinda part of the hobby. I enjoyed every second of working on my beauty and getting it all fixed up. You just have to pick away at the list- one project at a time. Now today my baby runs as good as she looks I guess depending on what he is asking, I wouldn't let those issues stop you IF your good at working on them. The biggest thing is that the body is super clean and it looks like you have a winner in that category. Do they have FPR's? Yes. If you got a Fuel pressure test guage, hook it up after the filter and see what reading you get. These cars should maintain a fuel pressure of 36.3 at idle. Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.
  13. What will is saying is only the Black Pearl Edition's came with the metal mirrors on both sides. Other 78 280Z's WITHOUT the special Black Pearl Paint Package just had the one mirror on the drivers side just like the others. To answer the original posters question on why there wasn't a pass. side view mirror standard? Good question A lot of the older cars didn't have passenger side mirrors. I even remember some few early 80's cars that didn't have them either. I think as time went on, all auto companies began installing the side view mirrors on both sides as standard safety equipment. Anyway, good luck. Hope all goes well with your test drive

I couldn't help but notice you did the same thing on this post made back in 2004 http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?p=195710#post195710 We all make mistakes but just remember to check the date of the thread first. Ok, I'm done playing forum police
  15. The L Jetronic uses a Roller vane pump. The roller cell is driven by an electric motor at over 3,500 RPM. This pump is capable of pressure in excess of 100 PSI which is far higher than any engine or F.I. system require. This is why this type of pump is located very close to or even inside the fuel tank because it does such an excellent job at pushing the fuel. Yes, low fuel pressure will cause symptoms like your having. The cause of low pressure can be more than one thing. Like a minor fuel leak somewhere in the system, clogged fuel filter, clogged or kinked fuel line ect., or yes a defective fuel pump BUT more often than not a defective fuel pump usually bypasses the "poor running" stage and simply stops operating. My opinion is this- until your fuel tank gets removed and cleaned very good internally, you will continue to have issues due to all the crud inside. A fuel tank can not be pretty inside on a car that has sat 18 years. Ifyour looking at getting it to run good as your first priority then I still recommend what I wrote above and get your fuel tank cleaned. The fuel may look clean to you coming out but I'm sure there is some small particles of junk that you cant even see. The fuel filters on the 280Z's are capable of filtering particles as small as 10 microns. This level of filtration is necessary due to the very small opening at the tip of the injector so as you can see, you can't always go by "The fuel LOOKED clean coming out Best of luck,
  16. "been sitting for 18 years. I got it started but is a bit hard to start. I cannot give it gas or it just breaks up very bad and backfires through the intake. If I give it gas very slowly it will rev up pretty good(very slowly). I have drained fuel tank and put in good gas." If it sat for 18 yrs. you will need to do more than just simply draining out the old gas and refilling with new gas. The inside of that tank I'll bet you has all kinds of crud and rust inside. This "Crap" inside the tank will just continue to break up and clog lines and the fuel filter which will result in low fuel pressure and cause an issue like your having. The Fuel injected 280Z's should be maintaing 36.3 PSI @ idle. First thing I'd do is remove that gas tank and get it cleaned INSIDE thoroughly.

Sounds interesting Once your able to find time to adjust and configure it, it will probably be an OK addition to the site. Right now it's just kinda confusing to me anyway :stupid: Either way, It's no big deal. It won't stop me from visiting the site Keep up the great work on both the site and your Z.

I agree webdawg1 Would be nice to know though how the "New Features" work Come on Mike, you can chime in anytime brother to shed some light on this subject WOW- Just pointed on my little green square and know it shows "DatsunZsRule is on a distinguished road" Wonder what I did to deserve this? Last night I was "Off the scale"

So it was just added? I thought so because I don't remember seeing it before? Oh well, I don't care what others think anyway Probably why I'm considered "Off the scale"

Noticed when I'm reading a post, there is this little icon that says Reputation? below everyones name? Maybe it's been there all along and I've just never seen it My question is when you click on your own, it shows how many points you have. Is more good or less?

My uncle just e-mailed me this and I thought I'd post it here. "A blonde woman came in to the dealer and asked for part seven-hundred-ten. They all looked at each other, and the mechanic asked, "What is a seven-hundred-ten?" She replied, "You know, the little piece in the middle of the engine. I lost it and need a new one. It had always been there." The mechanic gave the woman a piece of paper and a pen and asked her to draw what the piece looked like. She drew a circle and in the middle of it wrote 710. He then took her over to another car which had the hood up and asked, "Is there a 710 on this car?" She pointed and said, "Of course, it's right there." True, it's a good idea to look for the common sence things first like a clogged fuel line, filter, bad FPR ect. but Jason isn't off mentioning the E.C.U. as a possibility. Since the Electronic Control Unit is basically the brains of the whole system and computes the info it receives from the AFM and then sends out the signals to the other EFI components to maintain the correct air/fuel mixture, correct length of time the injectors are to stay open ect. so I'd TEST the E.C.U. first before you assume it's OK and rule it out because it very well could be a possible suspect if all the basic things check out good. Good luck,
  24. In addition to what will said, If your new place isn't too far away, I wonder if there would be some way to cover her while in transit to keep it somewhat safe from the elements?
  25. "This weekend I'll put the bags tied with rubberbands around the exhaust and intake to keep the mice out while they look for winter housing." It will take more than that to stop them Thankfully I don't have a mice issue in my storage garage but they were a problem in my folks RV. I told them to put some D-Con out and that worked for them like a charm :devious: Anyway yeah, I always kidded around with the guy I bought my Z from in AZ who I've lost touch with now about how when I'm putting mine away for winter, your bringing your baby out and when I'm ready to get mine back out, your putting yours away to keep it out of the 100+ degree heat
